what do you call the bit that ..............?

    ..... the bit that you use to get the machine turned look? i saw it once it a mag and can't think of the name. they say it can be found at any decent parts house. any help? thanx fellas.
     
  2. I've seen people use pencil erasers, Scotch brite pads, lots of stuff, depending on how "tight" a pattern they wanted.

    I can't think of the brand name of the stick that has the abrasive stuff impregnated, but a wodden dowel and valve grinding compound will do it just the same and you'll be able to find it at just sbout any parts store...not so sure about the pre-fab stick in that respect.

    yeah, i've heard that. but, i've seen where there is an actual bit for the press. anyone know what the hell i'm thinking?

    Eastwood sells kits to do it. Have you asked the folks at the parts house?

    the proper term for engine turning is Damascening.
    so a damascening rod maybe?
    OOPS! before someone tells me im wrong...im wrong.thats actually inlaying precious metals into a carved or worked area on metal.dodgy info in a book i just read.sorry
