My Father ... now deceased ( 2004 ) never took a drivers license test. In the mid 1930's ... his Father ( who had no license either ) told Dad to get in the car ( 1933 Chevrolet ) and they drove over to the magistates house and Dad applied for a drivers license. The magistrate asked my Grandfather if Billy Boy could drive ??? GrandDad said he drove me over here. Dad paid the small fee and had his drivers license. For the next 70 years he kept his license renewed ... and never tok a driving test.

I took my test in a UGLY RED 59 Chevrolet Bel-Air 4 door sedan. 283 with a PowerGlide. And no I would not want it now. My folks gave me the car @ 15 and I kept it 2 weeks and sold it. Bought something COOLER ... :)

My Parent's 1965 Chrysler New Yorker 6 window. 413, 4 bbl, automatic! One of the longest cars in the world! LOL Wish I had it now.....:(

  4. I took my driving test in a 59 2ton Chevy grain truck in Montana. That is what the boss had driven to town so that is what I took the test in.

Took my chauffeurs test in a 65 B model Mack dump truck with an 18 speed quad box ( twin stick ).

1978 2door Chevy Malibu Classic, my Grandmas car. She later sold it for $500.00 bux with under 50,000 on the odometer. The engine was weak(6cyl) and she bought something else(Buick). I tried to buy it from her but she told me no!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have put a 350 in it. Makes me sick to this day thinking about it, was pretty clean car. This was back in the mid 90's. I miss her............

My Grandfather never took a drivers test until he turned 75 in 1974. When they started using drivers license in Wisconsin he just had to mail the application and 25 cents. My Dad got his license in the Army prior to WWII and the State automatically gave him a license.

Three year old 55 ford v/8 , 3 on the tree overdrive trany, then my parents let me have the car. First thing i did was drop the rear down 3 in. put on a set of dual exhaust pipes and 3' long chrome side pipes with cover plates that i ran open most of the time. It never had much chrome on it , just emblems and ford crest on the hood and I took the rest of it off, powder blue with fender skirts. Drove it hard, until i lost first gear some place listening to my pipes back . Dad made me change the trany myself. He said" you broke you fix it" That's when i started learning how to fix what i broke.

  11. Learned to drive in my moms 1950 Chrysler 4dr.(see avatar) So I knew where that tank was all around me. My folks send my older brother with me in HIS car that I had NEVER driven before. The dmv guy's atitude was "you-already-failed-now-prove-me-wrong". I got him twice, failed twice. I finally "stole" the Chrysler one afternoon. I went down by myself, took the test with a different guy, and went home with my temp license in my wallet.

:)I first tested in the 41 Ford SuperDelux I had recently bought from my Dad.It was his daily driver. I had installed Port-0-Walls on it.When I did the parallel parking test I didn't get close enough to the curb. The Test guy mentioned it to Dad when we got back inside but he didn't fail me.;)

1957 Buick Century, 2Dr, manual trans, a real land barge with no power steering or power brakes. Had to wait till my eighteenth birthday to take the test as my folks wouldn't sign for any of their kids. Had been driving illegally since fourteen in my 40 ford pickup that ran a 265 sbc, three speed top loader and columbia 2 speed rear. Sold it when I went in the service at 17 (folks signed for that) and took driving test in service buddy's car on 18th birthday.

My Mothers, a 1965 Mustang 289 4 speed. I stayed out of school on friday morning to go take the test. After I got my license I drove my Mama home and went on to school in the car. When I came home that afternoon I overheard my mama tell my daddy she didn't mind my driving her car but I was not taking it to school everyday because she need the car at home for her to drive. The next morning Daddy and I went car shopping and I found a 1966 Fastback Mustang, 289, 4 speed, dark green. Daddy drove the mustang off the lot and I followed him in his Dodge pickup. My boyfriend (the real HRP) and I had plans for the day, so my daddy dropped my car by his buddy's station to fill it up and have him check it over. Uh Oh...problem... no grease fitting on the rear end. When I came in that evening I found that the mustang I had picked out had been traded for a bright red on red, 1966, 289, 3 speed mustang. Loved that car till it was totaled.

Drivers Ed. in a blue '63 Galaxie 4dr., 390 auto .......passed it first time out. We had to parallel park on both an uphill and a downhill situation and you had to get the car right on the first shot ...that stumped a lot of kids back then .
Later , at a class party we were talking up the experience . Some girls , who I didn't think were getting the driving thing too well , were laughing about how they had passed the first time ..." wear a short skirt !"
