Technical What did you do with your car today? * NEW*

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by j hansen, May 3, 2020.

  1. The brake pressure proportioning valve wore out after 20+years on my 51 ford. My mechanic replaced it with a new one from ECI, and in between a break in the atmospheric river storm, today, I picked it up. All is apparently well again. The valve was burning up my back brakes during a recent 500 mile trip. I was able to keep going by jacking up the rear end and releasing a bit of brake fluid from a cylinder whenever the drums started smoking. Not a good way to travel, but it worked as a temporary fix.

  4. IMGP3940r.jpg Pulled the front sheetmetal, then engine and transmission. Still to go are the steering box, and body mounts. Will be replacing full floorpan, once it arrives, or after Christmas break. Working around back nerve problems, and both shoulders wore out. So, only a few hours a day.

Didn't do shit to any of my cars today. Helped a couple of young guys building a 55 Chevy PU . They bought an 8.5 Chevy 10 bolt to put in it but it had 2.56 gears. Showed them how to break it down and clean it . After that we started setting up the new diff carrier for a set of 3.23 gears. They had no idea what it took to set up a rear end. Really enjoying working with these guys, they are building a 55 big window with a 283 and a 3 spd column shift. It has a Sids dropped axle and the boys rebuilt all the suspension on their own. Good day in my book.

  8. Actually started this project last weekend. Went over to a friend's shop and we took about 10.5" of width out, jigged it up and welded everything. Yesterday and today I started mocking it all up

Putting the two pictures together like that really shows the difference. Looks great!

Day before yesterday (the day of the big storms in Iowa) I wanted to get some miles on the 38 Chevy to determine where the oil leaks are emanating from (ultraviolet oil additive) so we drove about an hour to Atlantic to have Chinese at a restaurant my wife loves. Stopped at two of the kids work places to visit also. A few hours later the storm came through and ruined three trees. Glad we were home:) It will be a few days until I look for leaks, while I cut wood:(

Went out last night and got caught in the rain! Took the A pickup out to a local cruise night/toy drive event at a new place I haven't too before, but wish I had. It's called the Highway 39 Event Center, maybe some other guys are familiar with it. Wow, the place has a super car collection. As soon as you walk in the door you're greeted by an early T-Bird
    20211216_192659[1].jpg
Then you walk into the main room and all the way around the perimeter is filled with classic cars, all finished to museum quality. The first 3 you see are a 32 roadster, a 32 3-window and a 33 3-window,

Sorry about the quality of the photos, the lighting was really poor for photos.

    Here's a nice 40 cabriolet

My friends band was playing on the stage:

Here's the pickup out in front. I uploaded some pics of other cars at the cruise night portion of this, but decided to delete them because they included some not so HAMB friendly cars/wheels.

Was a wet ride home, water was flyin' off the tires! I was worried about the distributor getting wet, and it did start to run a little rough, but we made it home with no problems, other than being a little wet and cold. Not too bad though.
