Technical What did you do with your car today? * NEW*

Not so much today, but all week. Built a wooden citric acid tank out of pine 1x8 lumber and lined it with visqueen to derust the parts that were 40 to 48 inches. Rear window moldings, dash rail, rear seat riser parts, and a rear body pan.

 

Sealed the trunk lid for my '47; it will be nice to get the thing out of the middle of the garage and back on the car.

 

Tack welded the frame together for an English Wheel, more braces to add before welding.

 

Used my good buddy Murray’s vintage circle cutter , works a treat. The shroud looks like it will work . the white is just zinc the metal conditioner upset.

 

Finally got the asphalt parking lot done for the shop. Only took a year! They did a great job thou. All I’ve done since October 2018 is build this shop and I’m ready to get back to cars. Prolly 6 months left of work inside. Randy

Did a bunch of Holley carb tuning today on an off topic 1st gen Camaro with a big small block. Fired up an sbc on the run stand for a couple of my High School buddy's early 60s Chris Craft cabin cruiser. Lastly my pal Bob asked me if I had an oil pan for my 59 Vette project...I said no and he went into his storage unit and brought out an NOS Vette trap door pan still in the box . Also an NOS HP oil pump and pickup, with the receipt from 1985. Good day in my book

 

Put new guides and springs in a 59AB, then started cleaning up the heads

I finished my gas pedal, and got all the flex out of the firewall with a piece of 10 ga.

 

One of the things I didn't do a good job of planning on room for on the 56 wagon was the throttle and shift linkage, got the throttle linkage figured out today with one of Speedway's pedal and cable kits.

 

Hauled the trunk lid up to the shop and installed it; it even still fit. Planned to work on a new latch set-up (wasn't happy how the one from 5 or 6 years ago worked); but I left the box with the trunk gasket & bumpers along with the latch sitting by door at home. Guess it will be later in the week.

Drove my little '27 T with the new Flathead to a class win at RPM nationals! That's a pretty good day for me.

Made a repair part for 59ab oil pan dipstick tube mount on the plasma table... I saved the template if anyone has a need.

September 29th 2020 Scored another hard-to-find nailhead part. Fellow who goes by "Gear-Drive" has cast a hand full of 264-322 nailhead 4-71 blower manifolds and I managed to snag one. I'm gambling this to be the easiest path to mounting the Latham supercharger. My two Lathams came with small block Chevy manifold adapters. I'm guessing I can adapt the Latham to the blower manifold with some aluminum plate when the time arrives to mock it up.

 

Getting ready for October El Mirage I started my Roadster for a final check out. Had it running for 20 or so minutes then decided to try a video for here on the HAMB on my phone. Quiet because of neighbors with small children. There were 2 cameras for the long run which I’ll get my son to post on Facebook “Car 49” his race car site. No leaks, good temp, 0il pressure, etc.. just to load up and go. Couldn’t find the video, so here’s a photo.

 

Drove my Simca, well not really, just steered it to a new storage location. All at once, I was 8 years old, again.

 

Vroom Vroom

 

After 23 yrs. of racing the 55' stude, I finally installed a fuel pressure gauge where I could see it. Added a slosh tube to the carb and reset float levels. Also added a deep groove pulley on the alternator. Last time out to Alamo , had to go hunt down the belt after every pass. Gonna go test it all out Friday night at Alamo. If it all works, go back and race Saturday.

 

Blasted about 4 or 5 coats of paint off the trunk supports and painted them yesterday; made a shoulder bolt out of a brake pedal eccentric and put them on today. They seem to work well; but I was wondering if anyone has made some sorta "just in case" lock for them.

 

I did little easy maintenance on the old '55 Chevy. Checked the tire pressure and added a little PS fluid and a little brake fluid. Pulled on belts and changed oil and greased stuff.

We're getting ready for the St. Louis Hot Rod 100 Oct. 10, which will be about 500 miles before we get back. Nothing major but an exercise in preventive maintenance.

 

Finish the floor today. Thank goodness carpet covers it lol.

 

Worked on the engine I'm building for the 59 Vette. Degreed the roller cam , cut the timing pointer off a hashed 65 hi po timing cover and welded it on a nice cover after setting TDC. Waiting on the new spiro locks and can finish the shortblock.

 

Drove 6 hours home from Fall Carlisle and went to my 3 grandsons motocross races. Tomorrow I will go back to the motorcycle races and then look through my goodies I bought at Carlisle and see how much of the stuff I got is worth bringing home

 

Pulled the better version of a Hurst 3 speed shifter out of a 66 Galaxie convertible to replace the cheap and sloppy Indy version that is in my custom 500,I am spoiled with that battery powered sawzall that made cutting the floor out so much easier since it was sunk to the frame and no way was I going to jack it up and get it from under the car.

I am recovering from the trip to Rumble in the Country, yesterday,But i still want to go hang in the garage with my car...lol...is that bad?

Went and did some family pictures and cruised home in the convertible with my 16 year old daughter driving, made me smile.
