The truck looked nice before ....
those Americans will take it to the next level, can't wait till they are installed. You may consider a slightly wider slick for the rear.

Wrestled with a split rim, first time in about 50 years. One of the inner rears on my fire truck, which is going in a parade Monday, was dead flat, spun on the rim and pulled the tube stem inside. Got it apart and luckily no damage to the tube. Put it back together, felt like I fought a bear by the time I was done.

In college in the '70s I worked at a small independent tire shop. We broke the bead on split rims by swinging a pick! And no cage to re-inflate. Still here to remember it and glad for the knowledge, came in handy today. I hear most tire shops won't touch a split rim anymore.

A neighbor with his young son drove the fire truck in the parade yesterday. Not an old car guy so I followed him over there, then ended up following it in the parade too. As you can see the crowd is going nuts over the Vette lol. That photo looks like the end of the parade, actually it was appreciated by many along the route.

@j hansen aquamarine blue firemist. It has a lot of flake in it. pictures don't show what it really looks like. It shines in the sun. This is the old trunk lid just to see what it looked like. 283304940_685834819151435_9157986253772867854_n.jpg

  10. Had to pie cut my shifter, to get it in reverse, cause I changed the steering wheel. Had to reweld the motormount...AGAIN!!! Finally installed the correct windshield hinges, so I can open it more than 2". Finally cut the drivers plexi window, tinted it red, and had to fix the lock so i can get back in... getting everything ready for the Hotrods on the Tarmac, in two weeks...

PXL_20220706_030427868.jpg I hit this fender with the planishing hammer a bit more.

The wrinkles are almost all gone. There is one dent from the bumper edge left.

I am waffling between using the stud gun, and turning and grinding a long mandrel to bump it up. No hammer can reach it.

Getting old , well it is what it is. I took a run through the valves today as I have been out spinning this thing up a little. And I have to use a cheat sheet to keep track of where I am at in the process. But I am still going !
I guess I breathed to much lead, asbestos, body shop air and the list goes on over the years. IMG_0530.JPG IMG_0531.JPG

I took my rear lowering springs out and put my heavy duty wagon springs back in. Added a cpp adjustable panhard bar while I was at it. It's a truck after all, it needs to be able to earn it's keep. Top 2 pics are the Afters. IMG_20220706_202015.jpg IMG_20220706_201937.jpg IMG_20220112_172821.jpg IMG_20220112_172717.jpg 2

When I put this together I had a new Holley carb that I was told made a few dyno pulls and placed on a shelf where it sat for a few years before it was passed on to me. I wanted to take a look inside and see what jets and PV were in there. I also looked up the list number and it is actually a 700. It still has the stock jetting and PV set up . The only thing I changed was the floats, both set to high for my liking. With center hung floats I turn the bowl upside down and adjust them so they are level across the top.
It has been decades since I have done any of this stuff as far as performance work goes. My wife has been with me for 41 years and in the beginning we spent all our time and money running my car at one of the local dragstrips. So I told her I was taking a look in the carb. and she goes and gets me a pair of 72 jets out of her jewelry box she has had put back for decades . I thought that was great. All the years she spent pushing my car through the staging lanes and even held onto to those jets, What a woman ! Overall the Studebaker runs great. I have not come up with a place to do some starting line work, I would like to see it a little leaner but the exhaust looks good and the plugs are ok also. Picked up my small block ford from dyno shop for my 40 pickup. I am happy with 384HP@6000RPM and 376LB-FT@4600RPM.

I got it all buttoned up ! valve lash set, fresh plugs. I changed out both squirters with some tube type. The front was a 28 I stepped it up to a 31 and the rear from a 31 to a 37. Added 2 more degrees of timing 18/40 and drove uptown to the Advance store and the throttle response is great ! Plus when you walk in the shop and the Cam 2 smells so good , and this is a bad ass little truck. IMG_0538.JPG

Yesterday, not today. Put the Mc___d 5sp in the car for the 3rd time after rectifying a production fault (yes. Avoid these boxes - big mistake on my part) and took the car on a 20 mile test run. So far so good but after all the crap I had with that box I don't think I would relax until more miles are covered.

If they do I can understand why it's not a good gearbox. Their food is shit and overpriced.

Oil change, suspension grease, tightened up the steering box a hair. Decent improvement, I had adjusted it a touch loose to begin with.

Someone I know has a '59 Ford Pop racing car with black paint you can swim in it's so deep- he suggested try some Meguiar's polish, so I went bought a bottle and tried it out.

Quite impressed, it's the green stuff they sell at Wally world.
