  2. Made some hood straps for the hood I made recently. Then I made some hood sides using offcuts from the hood and louvre panels from a DIY store that cost about $3 US

This old beastie is cleaning up better than I hoped. I had a few pinholes -- of course in the top -- that needed some filler so it's setting up now. I was hoping to get it into powder today but the filler needs to set up and I'll outgas it again first. Both my customer and I have high expectations for it! << prayin' to the Powder Gods >> :D

  5. I have to dive into why my electric fan is not working, a nice Spal kit with the works I put in last year. I was waiting to get into a cruise (place was jammed...) and the fan never went on, should come on at 195 and it worked last week. Fuse (30 amp) at the battery looked intact.

I mean, what the hell. Build a car with the best parts, my skills are good, I cut no corners and its one thing after another..

Removed the front of a 351-W to replace a sloppy timing chain and took a hammer to the stuck distributor to get it out.

Last weekend I finished replacing the leaking water pump. That took longer than I expected for a simple SBC water pump, because I had to discover that it’s a 74 block with a 68-70 Corvette “short” pump on it. With less than 1/4” clearance, nothing else will fit.

Moved the car afterward, and found an oil drip by the left rear wheel. So today I guess I’m going to start replacing the axle seals.

  8. Took a drive around my yard in my 48 Ford coupe I bought a couple of months ago. Finally got it to run and yard drive. Now to tune it up. It sat for years and has taken me 2 months to replace brakes fuel system and ignition. Did you guys realize you can't buy anything for old cars local anymore? Have to order everything and wait and wait.

Yep. Had to order brake shoes this morning. NAPA. Coming from Tennessee, should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Had to order the water pump two weeks ago. Even v belts are getting hard to get, almost had to order those too.

Took three tries to find somebody that could turn drums.

Good to know, but we don’t have one of those here.

NAPA used to, but got out of it and sold their lathe to Jesus Auto in what locals refer to as “little Mexico”. Tried him, but he decided it wasn’t making enough money to justify the space, so sold it to a friend in Chicago. But, three doors down, Pedro has a lathe, and 30 minutes and $20 later, they’re turned and good to go.

My other local chain stores are Advance and AutoZone.

  15. This was the culprit in my electric fan saga... I had a shrink sleeve splice in it and one side had let loose. Replaced it with a crimp connector and sleeved it.

  17. I patched a hole in my steel '29 AA right front fender. A friend and mentor told me it wasn't worth the time and effort, and he is right, but I needed the practice. I'm learning. Afterward, I treated myself to a trip to our nearest big town for Cruise Night.

  19. Tell me about it... Replacement parts that don’t fit or solve the problem, mystery faults... Makes you wonder why we don’t all buy new cars.

‘Cause the new ones have the same problem, but it’s harder to fix? My father in law has a fancy Caddy with all electronic dash that randomly goes blank. Turn the car off, back on, it starts working again. It’s going to take a lot more than a test light to figure that out.

Have been away getting a H. S. Grad/Boot Camp Going away party ready for the boy.

Able to get back to it today....engine and transmission are set in place to check for last fits of headers, clutch linkages, etc. Ready to bolt it in for good tomorrow!!! 20180828_122357.jpg 20180828_122338.jpg 20180828_122312.jpg

  29. What are you doing for the rear tranny mounts? Is it a stick and you are using the bell housing with the mounts, or did you make something? The reason I ask, is that my son and I are putting a 400 sb with a 700r4 in a 47 International, and although I have the mid engine mounts cut and ready to weld and the rear crossmember built, it isn't too late to change the setup to get more room on the left side.
