I'm older than dirt, so, this was my ride as a senior in 1950.

1974: This was not my only "cool" car, but I did spend a lot of time driving a 1953 Cadillac Superior hearse, painted Pinto pink. Bought the car for the motor, to replace the one in the family 1947 Lincoln Continental that my brother blew a hole in pushing it too hard. I got a lot of warnings and tickets for over-sized parking (never pay any of them), old people would flip me the bird, hippies hitch-hiking on the freeways would run away, and several dates thought it was the best vehicle for "shagging". I have not one picture of this vehicle. My dad said if we could get it running, we could buy it for the $150 asking price, which resulted in his grounding it on the side of the road because the gas gauge didn't work, and we had to tow it home. Then, battery box was rusted and and the battery fell, causing an engine compartment fire, and the car sat in our driveway through Christmas. My mother didn't say six words to me, which was a blessing. The neighbor behind us dies, and everyone came to our house for her wake. My mother never forgave me. That hearse was hysterically cursed, and I loved every minute owning it. Sold it for $60 scrap after taking off the bent front bumper, hood, motor, and batwing air cleaner. Still have the batwing air cleaner, but the rest of it rots with the Lincoln in my mother's back yard.

  4. That is hysterical.
I can just picture the reception line up your front walkway for the deceased neighbor ( with mom stuffing your head against the side of the Cadillac).

I guess a 67 plymouth station wagon might be "cool" today, but it sure wasn't in 1979

Couldn't afford a car in high school, so I took the "50 window coupe" to school. I bought a badly beaten up 56 Ford Mainline(stick 6) in '61 to drive to the local community college. (They were called "junior colleges then"). The 6 died and I and my friends installed a 300 HP 352. With the 4.11 rear end, it was good for the street. Fooled a lot of people, had a lot of fun.

In 1996/97 i had a 1957 dodge coronet 4dr sedan, i spun a rod in the 325 about halfway through the year so i got a tired 392 installed and finished out the school year with it. Not really all that fast, but still a lot of fun.

    I miss that car.

I had a 60 Chevy Impala 2drht but didn't know it was cool untill it was too late.

  12. I graduated in 77 and drove a new 77 Grand Prix, Metalic Blue with a white landue(sp) roof and white leather interior, honey comb wheels with chrome beauty rims, damn nice car, wish I still had it.

  13. Normally I drove my parents' 96 Mercury Sable, but at least once a week I took our '72 Ford F-250. 390, automatic trans, set off car alarms all the time.

In 1968 I didn't think my one owner '54 Chevy Four Door was cool, but I'd REALLY like to find a '54 Bel Air Two Door today.

I drove a 1972 nova with a 400 4 barrel and a 4 speed. The thing had shackles about a foot long, n-50-15 tires and kestone classics. Remember the steam roller look? I couldnt take off without burnin the tires.... wow that was a fun time!

1990 Geo Prizm. It was a very dependable, boring car.

Edit -- Sorry, I just noticed it says "cool" in the thread title. Forget what I said.

In 1969 I had a 67 Mustang fastback S-code that took most of my money from my gas station job. I was kind of a hoarder. I also had a 54 Mercury Sun Valley, 2 56 Fords, a Customline and a Town Sedan. A 46 Chevrolet Pickup and a 57 Chevrolet Bel Air four door. Also had two 29 Fords, a two door and a four door. Cars didn't seem to cost what they do now, and if I ran across one, I'd buy it. Like a lot of guys, I wish I had them all back. Heck, I still have to control myself to keep from buying every old car I see.

    1968,
I had very modest teen years, My dad had a 1951 Plymouth and 31 model A. stock and rough. In my teens then I didn,t want to be seen in those old cars. most of my friends parents had much newer cars then.
I owned a 56 Chevy 2dr. ht. primered, 265, 3sp. 4bbl. single exh. plain steel wheels. lot of bondo kind of rough. paid $30 for it. It didn't run, I had to rebuild it. My 1st experience at car rebuilding. Well I owned it, and it ran, but I couldn't drive it,cuz I couldn't afford car insurance. It sat in my Dad's driveway till I graduated and started working. Well 43 years later I 'm 61 years old and own a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa, 32 Ford blown hemi, 32 Ford steel unchopped 3w.cpe, 69 Triumph bonnieville, 69 BSA lightning, plus 2 common daily drivers. I guess my poorer up bringing made me strive to have nicer cars now in my late life.
