Own? lol '73 Pinto 2.0/4spd. shaved, bored, balanced, cammed, carbed. Put to shame a lot of V8's in my H/S. and a 1973 Boat tail Riviera when I wanted to be "classy". I also had a 53 Chev PU, that never saw the street until AFTER graduation.....but I got to drive my Dad's 52 Merc whenever I wanted to. :D

Class of '85, Charles A Sprague H.S. (The Country Club on the Hill) Salem,Or. LOTS of rich kids in that school, I was NOT one of them. My senior year had a bunch of nice cars. '68 RS/SS Camaro, '70 440/4spd Cuda, '69 383 Charger, '70 440 GTX, a couple Corvettes, and a DeLorean....among others.

  4. I had a "70 Lemans with a Ram Air 3 400, auto and 12 bolt with 3.55s but I could not keep up with the 2 fast cars at school, a Boss 429 Mustang and a Gremlin with a 427. But I had fun trying until the 12 bolt scattered and then we tore it apart and made a sportsman stock car out of it.

In 1969 as a Senior at Neptune H.S. (NJ) I had a 1955 Thunderbird. Paid $1095.00 for it at West Side Ford in Asbury Park NJ. It was a little rusty and tired but I loved that car.
There was a great cruising scene in Asbury Park on the circuit back then and we spent hours just driving around.
I eventually totally restored the car and kept it until 2003 when college tuition for the kids reared its ugly head.
Currently driving a '57 Custom Tudor Sedan. Love those Y Blocks

  11. Started senior year (1968) with a SBC in a '53 Willies Aero...launched the motor and bought a "62 'vette with a 301...bought the 'vette on a Friday PM and talked to my insurance agent on Monday after school...Vette went back to dealer ASAP. Finished the year with a '62 Olds F-85 with the 215 Aluminum V8 and four speed. Senior year auto shop build was a '62 Falcon w/ 389 Poncho motor.

I def had the biggest in my class..1965 Chrysler Imperial. Leaked various fluids which marked the spot for many years later. I was proud.

Also had a black 79 Trans Am and my friend had an orange 69 GTO. This was in 1998-99.

I think the best car I took to school was a family friends 59 caddy eldo conv. red/ white. (also sr prom car)...oh yeaaa.

72 malibu 350/350. my first car, and i still have it. first malibu was pretty rusty. bought a rust free california body at americruise swap meet in 96, and transferred everything to the new body. painted it between my junior and senior year (that's what got me into body work, which is what i do now), and put the stripes on it at trade school.

I can't believe so many people could afford to drive while they were still in high school! And not just drive, but in style! Crazy! I skateboarded or rode my bike. I didn't know working at mc donalds could afford such luxury. Obviously i was wrong.
    Ha Ha! Seriously though.

When I was in jr. high, there was an attorneys' kid that was the winner two years straight, Daddy bought him a new '68 396-375 SS-RS Camaro in 11th grade, and he showed up with a new '69 428CJ Mach1 for his senior year- took him a week to whack the left rear quarter into a light pole.
Mine, 1974, St.Helena, CA- royal maroon '69 Mach1 with gold stripes, front spoiler and rear wing, and rear window slats- and I've still got it, bought it from my dad in '73

70 Chevelle SS 396, Silver, Black vinyl top, got it with a bad motor.
Put a used 427 in it and broke two pistons, rebuilt the 427 and all was good.
Sure wish I still had it, tire smoldering SOB.

We actually used my Falcon during one of my HS bands Beach Boy half time shows my senior year. I've got pictures to prove it around here somewhere. I certainly thought I had the coolest car. My band director had an early Galaxie as well, so to say we got along well, would be an understatement.

A '41 Plymouth coupe, and a '67 Mercury Comet which I totaled a 1 1/2 years later. The '41 got a restoration that took 4 years to complete. I dated my wife in it, then my dad sold it when I got married. He offered to let me buy out his share but you know the rest.
