mid 80's ford color? i think they called it smoke.

  7. Looks VERY close to the cured color of Southern Polyurethane's gray epoxy primer. When cured it has a satin sheen like the truck shown. Here's what it looks like on my project.

It may well be a '40/'41 color as ford used a grey at that time. The problem is that if you want that specific color your going to have to find the guy that painted it.

If grey is for you... Check with your local paint supply store and ask to look through a few Fleet Color guides... have a picture of the truck with you and find a color that is close.

Bare in mind that the photo you have is just an approximation of the color that is on the truck in person...as is any color chip you find.

Here's a link to the auto color library at TCP Global website showing chips for '39/'40 fords.

When I was painting for a living I hated it when a customer would come to me with a photo wanting that "exact" color.:eek:

I do understand about the color with the picture, but figured if someone recoginzed the truck and new the owner maybe they would post. Also if the color looked familiar I could find a paint code. It looks a little like fords feather gray or blur gray colors

Find a late model car that has the color you want and check the color code inside the door post or under the hood on a tag.

We were looking for a nice rich yellow to paint the Track Car, saw a modern TBird that looked good and asked the owner to let us check the color code. He did and we got the info quick and the guy loved the Track Car when we showed it to him finished. It was "Inspiration Yellow" by name.

It may have faded some since the OP posted this thread 7 years ago.
