Some people think it has no class. Just a question for some of the pre-bracket drag racers out there. What designation would my car fall under. 55' Stude, altered wheelbase, 430 Buick motor and turbo 400 trans, carbureted. 3460 lbs with me in it.
If it were 1965 again and you took it to the drags, I also think that A/A would be your class. With that many cubes and a fairly lightweight car, Altered is your class. I don't think it would fit the FX class because those were factory built cars even if the racers did the wheelbase changes themselves.
Figured the wheelbase would put it in altered, but have no idea how the weight and cubic inch stuff worked.
I wondered about FX, it seemed that they were all late model bodies but maybe one could get in on a technicality.
A/A.most altereds were manual transmissions in the 60's.My first altered had a B&M 4sp hydro, but all ran in the same class. The current NHRA classes reflect the transmission eg.A/AA [automatic] A/AM [manual] A/AP [planitary torgue convertor, with a lenco,or Bruno]
The weight break in C/A was 7.5 to 8.5 lbs per cubic inch with the driver. 3460 divided by 430 comes out to 8.04. You would have fallen in the middle of C/A. I have a friend in the 70's ran C/A in a 27 roadster 2950 lbs with a de-stroked SOHC Ford. It ran 9.09 @149mph.
Thanks, looks like C/A it is, but gonna need to work on the nine flat. Hoping for 10's with a fresh 455, gotta get it put together.
Hey MISCON - Have you been onto the Stude Racing site ? http://www.racingstudebakers.com/foo/index.php You'd be an attraction over there. Lot of good stuff....and NO ONE care's whether you have a stock Stude or what engine it has. Matter of fact, there's a section for Non-Stude Powered Studes. Check it out. Mike
Yeah, for the Non-Stude powered Studebaker cars, it is either on the FAR Right or on the FAR Left, I think it's called the Extremists class, or maybe it's the Anarchist Radicals class,...not sure. Have to check. ...
