Ok fellas, I'm starting a build on my 33 coupe, it was going to be flathead power but plans have changed after a browse of the HAMB classifieds. I'm in the process of acquiring a blown small block.
Still undecided on trans choice but would like to still run torque tube, so maybe one of crazy daddyo's 5speed torque tube adaptors.
What the question is, I have a NOS Kansas City 201, will this unit be strong enough, I don't beat on my cars, or should I sell and upgrade to a 301 or get one of hotrod works complete units with slide in axles.
I sometimes feel that the 301 looks a little to big under an early ford.
    Thanks in advance, thommo

    How complete is your 201?
    What type differential?
It can be made to handle a blown small block. An automatic transmission is your friend on this one.
The 301 (Halibrand) is stronger but not as strong as a Winters or Frankland.
I like the big rears for big power.
Try it (the 201), if it breaks then it wasn't tough enough for the job.;)
If you're not going to hammer it, why do a blower motor?

Case and shaft only. Got a 37 rear to rob from, have 36 bells, i don't drop burn outs but drive hard otherwise.

I'd do a big case. So much more strength and good H.D. parts.

In my opinion with a blown engine, your wasting your time and money with a T-5 and a 201

I like the 301 under a model 40 (33/4) and they can handle the torque. You could probably trade your unit to a Deuce lover for a 301 model or go with a new large Winters Champ. Here is how mine turned out and will handle all the torque and h.p. you can give it.

The tank requires a small notch to clear the champ.

The new owner painted it black and it shows off the cast blast finish better.

Thanks Lynn, so I gather that's got the bell adaptors for the early ford tubes.looks neat under there, looks like a trade is in order.

Yes, the adapters are required for the early tubes and are difficult to locate but they show up on ebay all the time. If you purchase a 11 bolt case then you can use the Winters adapters which are available through Winters.

Look for a Tech Week post on using the Winters plates on 11 bolt Halibrand case.
