I bought an old BBC blower motor, and had it rebuilt ,and my engine builder reused the gear drive. What brand is it? I even had to grind the Weiand cover to get it to fit right :D

Oh, he "kept the gear drive" ON YOUR ENGINE. I misunderstood, I thought you were missing a piece and had to try to find out what to replace it with.
Never mind me, I'm dumb and never seen that particular gear drive before. Only one's I've seen have both gears the same size.

  5. Looks like milodon. Snag a Summit catalog and look at the pics.

Probably if you look real close at the parts there will be some marking that help determine what drive it is.

Edit your post to say re-used. It sounds like he took/kept it when reading.

I had a friend with a Pete Jackson drive and the cam would walk forward and it wore a hole in his stock timing cover. I can just imagine the metal filings that put into his system. He later had a new Fram oil filter plug and wiped out his new motor

  18. You know what they say about racing, it is addicting. I had to tell the judge more than once that I had a disease, they put me in rehab but it just doesn't work. Its like I got a monkey(wrench) on my back. :D

Well there ya go. I knew if we kept this thing alive your answer would come up.

Couldnt find a pick on ther website. Going to call them. I thought you didnt need a cam button on a flat tappet motor. Thought you only needed them on roller cams?

My engine builder said "NO" to gear drives. Said they create harmonics that can cause premature engine failure.

they dont create harmonics, they transfer them to the bearings, i second that thought, dont use it, you will have a better running motor with a doulble roller timing chain.

I have heard this also, but never once have I ever seen a post or thread or heard anything by word of mouth of it actually happening. I've written it off to wives tale status and have run gear drives since about 89' with nary a problem on any of my motors.

I love gear drives and if I had the cash my 55 would have another on it now.

    Bring on the whine!!

I sent Summers Brothers a pick. He said it look like thereS and I missing the correct timing cover, and or I need some kinda of thrust buton that rides on some sort of plate on the timing cover. Waiting from some picks from them. If it cost to much for the stuff, its yanked off and a double roller is going on. I dont need a gear drive whine a got a Blower for the real deal :D

My engine builder who has been in the business for something like forty years, also teaches Mechanical Engineering, says gear drives create bad harmonics.
