MB and I took a boat trip to Portsmouth, NC today. The last resident left the island in 1971, as I got off the boat this chassis was sitting at the waters edge.

Everything but the major castings were ate away with the salt water.

What do you think it was?

The National park volunteer said there were hundreds of vehicles left behind that needed to be disposed of here are a couple of parts left behind:

  4. Yes, Jeep. Flathead 4-banger, offset differential, but yeah, less to go on than a game of Clue with half the cards missing.

The engine is OHV , Brakes are drums on front and rear) I couldn't believe my eyes the front axle was rusted in two ( both the housing and shaft).

The big question is how to wash something like that when you get it home.

Are you sure it's OHV and not an F head? OH intake valves? That was my guess. With a better picture of the engine I bet you would get an answer

^Salt in the air is probably no better on the west coast or Gulf coast, either. Nature reclaiming her own.

It doesn't matter what it is, I was amazed at how it is rotting its way back into the earth. I have to image it had a body at one time.

I don't think you could do much with the 8ba. it does not have any spark plugs in and all the opening on the intake not covered. looked like the transmission is setting behind it also

  19. Yep... That's going to take a whole lot of dryer sheets to clean that one up!

I would totally put flat clear over it to lock in the patina.
