The Harry Westergard roadster received the Bruce Meyer Hot Rod Preservation award at the GNRS, too cool.

No kidding! Quite the history that car turned out to have. Luckily nobody ever took that windshield off and turned it into a "Street Rod", it's identity would have been lost forever.

Off hand I couldn't find any. Plenty of cars inspired by or attributed to but no early photo of that car with the windshield done and the car finished.

That car was on eBay? Do you (or anyone else here) happen to have a copy of the ad? I'd love to read what it said.

I really like the car with its custom touches, but that bashed-in tank at the rear does somewhat irritate me :)

Harry was heavily into circle track racing. I believe the smashed in tank was from push car use & therefore integral to this being 'his' personal everyday beater hotrod.
Here are a couple of pics of his race car. The track is the infamous (and long-gone) 'Lazy J' here in Sacramento.

In the photo of the three guys standing in front of his race car, that is Harry on the right, and on the left is (I believe) Butler Ruygaard, for whom Harry built a very cool custom.
Behind Butler is Harry's little house next to his mother-in-law's house (before his wife dumped him).

It made me smile, and realize that many take this hobby way too serious and forget what it's supposed to be about... having fun.

wonder if the old guy that owned it for so long and sold it on ebay is following the story of the car?

I remember when it was listed on Ebay and thought the next time it would be on the internet it would be shown at some shop getting the '40 style windshield taken off and a stock one replacing it. Wouldn't that just rot your socks if indeed you had done that and later found out the true history.:mad:

I find it difficult to understand why the pushed in gas tank wasn't replaced, but it certainly is the owners choice. It really detracts from the look. Not saying it should be restored but................
