One of the unique features on the Wes Collins car was the unidentified gas filler door which was on the black car pre 1948. So I scratch fabbed my own.

Have always thought the Wes Collins roadster was the ultimate early custom, ever since seeing a photo of it decades ago in a Dean Batchelor article. To me its like an everymans version of the Clark Gable/Gary Cooper Duesenburg roadsters, beauty and power together. Yes please keep the build posted on the HAMB, don't care for Instagram. Thanks for doing this

Is the body from SAR? And the fenders from UPAC?

  13. Good job on the Gas door, I think the original was a ash tray door cover. i seem to remember that door shape somewhere on the dash of a car.

Picked up this original 34 grill with the original plating still looks pretty good. Also tucked in the bumper about 1-1/2" and shaped the bumper brackets. skip34.jpg

Are you going complete recreation, or maybe add some interesting hood sides?

I've seen a very few pictures of the Collins car before, but I'm amazed at the number of people on here who are familiar with it and admire it. I thought I was the only really old fart on here!

Fell in love with it the first time I saw a picture of it in Street Rodder in the 80`s.

Never any new pictures other than the one Rik Hoving found on Epay driving down the road.

Complete recreation with new parts as close as I can get. Dash is almost complete and will be about 95 percent correct.

@Royalshifter: I'm in Europe and, let me tell you, this car will be able to show up at any of the posh concours d'elegance meetings here and they'd wave it in without batting an eyelid as a product of one of the classic 30s coachbuilders. Perfect.

Recessed license plate is the next task and it also gets a glass cover. skips341.jpg skips340.jpg
