Wendover increases police force, strict enforcement of speed laws

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Curt R, Aug 13, 2008.

  1. per SCTA, for this years Speed Week, additional police, city and county. Strict enforcement of speed laws on Wendover streets and access roads to the salt flats. Strict enforcement of open container laws, also.

  2. I'm gonna have a good time with that..speedometer not working!

What's brought this about, have there been issues? Or is it just Cops being Cops?

Can make it difficult for overseas visitors as if they cross the law then they want passport ID and all the hire car stuff etc etc.
And then there could be some terrorists out there.

  5. I think it is always enforced a little stricter for the large events, anywhere.

Its a revenue generator. Alot of people from out of town, can't spend time going back to fight it in court, so they get the fines paid with no arguement.

I think its shitty, as this event brings money to a small town that might possibly be insignificant without it. There are casinos all over Nevada. What else would bring you to that end of the state?
I guess they have a golf course or something..

I prefer to patronize the smaller places, that need the $$.

All Hambers need to go to the Black and White in Wendover. Small bar, but they have food, and a few pool tables, etc.

They could use the patronage. Nice people, too.

With the popularity of "Fastest Indian", and in hot rodding mags (Frieburger can take the heat), plus this forum - spectator numbers are WAY UP over the last few years. And they are not behaving themselves in Wendover, on the roads and especially on the salt.

Traditional salt dogs have their fun away from town to be good neighbors with the townsfolk, the po-lice, and the Bureau of Land Management that ALLOWS the races.

This ain't no Saturday night free-for-all, OK? Don't do burnouts and raise hell - not everyone cares for it. And especially - treat the salt with respect! Don't scatter trash there, don't pour any liquid other than clean water on it, and don't tear up the salt with donuts!!

Sorry about the rant, but mind your manners out there, OK?

When I was in the Marines I had a Commanding officer that used to tell us "act like an adult and get treated as such act like an idiot and I'll fuck with your time!" I think it applies here as well as every other car show or event. The towns people just want to protect the place where they live for 51 weeks a year that we're not there. respect them and their stuff and those extra policemen will just be there to make sure no ones cars get stolen since that seems to be the new epidemic. We don't need to be driving around with open containers and shit anyways. Sure it's fun but it's also dangerous since the open container you're cought with is usually your 15th of the day.

Probably A-Holes acting like A-Holes. Bigger crowd and you need a bigger PD presence. Really not hard to figure out
