Here's a picture of the "Moomjean" roadster. There can't be two different car guys with that name!

Like I said on your other thread, given the apparent historical connection, you may want the give that idea a second thought.

Very nice! I'd sure like to pull in with it to see the look on MY wife's face; not that it's nothing I have't seen a hundred times before. With the tire rack, it looks like it was used for a roundy-round type of racecar. What's under the hood, and how good of a deal did you make? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

I think back about 50 years and Moomjean was racing dirt track in Merced. Used to go there on dates.

  15. I like it, I like it a lot. If it was up to me I would keep the lettering or better yet do it up like it is on the car. Great score.

Nice truck. Take some good pics of the lettering, then take it off and put your logo there. It's your truck now!

That's a famous truck and name with history in the Merced Ca area. Be sad to see you take the name off it. But it is yours to do what you want. It's hauled many a famous car to shows and drag strip.

Dennis Moomjean is James's son, a friend of mine, and many locals hereabouts. Some items of interest:

The James Moomjean Highboy was actually used as a 'Courtesy Car' throughout the '50s, and into the '60s at James's car lot.

Son Dennis ran the family muffler shop for years, was a hot contender at the Merced Race track. (also 'years')

Dennis sold Mark Morton (Hop Up mag Kingpin) his '27 tub, about same time I found mine, 4 miles away.

When Dennis sold the property on Highway 159, he sold me a '50 Ford F6 tow truck, powered by a 3,000 mile '52 Olds 303 that he pulled out of a practically new wrecked Olds in '54! I sold the truck to buddy Lester Codd, who used the Olds in a '34 3 window.
Dennis also sold me the N.O.S. '37 Ford tube out of the Ford dealer's attic for a $100 bill.

The year prior, we saw the new owner of the Moomjean Highboy at Turlock? Or Pleasanton? Can't recall, long time ago. The Moomjeans were serious car people. Local 'legends'...Merced, CA.

I was able to sneak my new toolbox into the garage today, don't think I would get away with that
truck. Nice score, she should not be too mad, it has paint, a/c and a finished interior, Much nicer than the junk I bring home!

I don't think that I could take the lettering off, BUT I will put a magnet billboard over the top of it. I won't be able to deal with every person asked what a moomjean is.
The tire rack was the first thing to go. It'll be stored

Since the original motor was pulled, I'm think SBC with more horsepower would be nice and freeway gears.

Neat rig! Old school hose clamps on A/C lines?
If you're going to swap engines, maybe a big block? Weight of ramp and race vehicle will add up.
