Well ladies & gentlemen, it is officially time to start getting ready for the 2017 Meltdown Drags. This will be the 8th year of the Meltdown Drags and as usual held at the historic Byron Dragaway in Byron, Illinois. The event will take place from Friday, July 14th through Sunday, July 16th.

The purpose of this thread is:

    • People to share what they are doing to get ready for the 2017 Meltdown Drags

    • Have a little fun calling out a match race

    • Official Meltdown communications regarding the event

    • Just don't be a jerk and you will have fun on this thread

For those who have never been to the Meltdown Drags, what are you waiting for? Just kidding. The Meltdown Drags is an event like no other as we recreate a drag meet from 1966. This is an event for racers/hot rodders put on by racers and hot rodders. Bring your period correct car to race at the best vintage drag meet in the world. Some might even say that this is the place where the guys go that get it!

The best part about the Meltdown Drags is that this is an event where everyone can come and have fun. We don't care who has the fastest car. This is an event that every car group, or individual, can come and have fun for just one weekend a year to feel like you went back in time. People came from 42 states and everyone is treated with the same welcome and level of respect.

For more information on the rules please check out www.meltdowndrags.com

We also have a Facebook page and recommend that you follow it for other updates as time goes on.

In our ongoing effort to ensure we are being as period correct as possible to 1966 we will be clarifying some of the criteria as well as tightening up a few areas.. This isn't done to single anyone out, but to hold to a high standard for everyone.

And finally for those who are wondering, pre-registration will start at Midnight between January 1st and January 2nd, so stay up late and try to be one of the first to register for the event.

Thank you to all for making the prior seven events a huge success and we look forward to a historic event in 2017.

I think Jeff may have been exposed to the meltdown a skosh too long and got poisoned a bit by the radioactive awesomeness that makes the meltdown what it is Not that there is anything wrong with that lol but count me in

Went with the wife for a business trip to Milwaukee last week and saw an exit for Bryan Dragstrip. Looks like about a nine hour drive from home. Does scouting out the trip count as getting ready?

The Canadian invasion is talking about 7 cars that may be committing to the 14 hr drive to Meltdown for 2017. These are folks that have been there and have the t-shirts - or - have been talking about it for more than 1 season - or - just missed being ready for 2016.

    Meltdown veterans:
    • My 63 Scout - Mike - get the Tacos ready !! - I'm bringing beer !!
    • Our 49 Prefect - Paul and Megan sharing driving duties
    • 37 Willys sedan - Gary Misko - 2 time Meltdown participant with this gorgous street rod
    • 23 T - Altered - Mark and Rose LaVallee - Been there twice - made the magazines
    • 23 T - Altered - Blown injected alcohol sbc - Larry Arnold - 4 time Meltdown veteran as pit support
Need to back up the big talk - Meldown Rookies:
    • 46 Ford truck - Straight axle / Gasser style race truck - Brett Sinclair - Gene Winfield chop
    • 63 Chevy 2 Wagon - Vic and Marlin Lundy - This is a for real Stock Eliminator survivor.
I fully realize this is way too soon to start talking about commitments as life happens and talk is only talk until they pre-register. But it shows how far and how fast the word has spread about the Meltdown Experience

You better make sure you keep your gap on that wire.

I am not worried you will be too busy making sure you don't get tangled up in all that wire lol most people take wire out to gain advantage lmao

Just encase anyone reading this wants to know what I am up to with my ignition system.
I have wired a switch under my throttle pedal so when I go wide open it will bypass the ballast resistor so I get a full 12 volts to the coil for the hottest spark during my run and then have resisted voltage the rest of the time to help with point life.
The next thing that I am trying now is that I have wire my second set of points (duel point dist) separate from the other set and wired to a switch that I can control inside the car.
Now with this switch I can cut out one set so that it will give me a retard in the timing when I go into high gear.
I can adjust the dwell on the set of points that I cut out to adjust the amount of retard.
Not real sure if my engine needs this or not but I just had to try and see if there was any more in this combo and at this point its only some time and some wiring.
At this point I am still playing with it and not sure if I am going backwards or forward.
But it was good enough to win my class at the HAMB Drags.
Oh and Jackson where were you? Oh that's right you broke.
