Hey Tom, Could you post up one of your pictures edited and un- edited and explain some of the tricks (skill) and time required to produce some of the images you share with us? I think I may not be the only one that would be interested in learning a little about the process and some may get a deeper appreciation for what it takes for you to share your photos the way you do.

    Hmm...OK, I'll see what I can do.

This one has the obvious cropping. Working in Adobe Lightroom, I decreased the highlights in the sky separately to darken it, then I increased the highlights overall to add sculpture and definition to the car body lines. Then I brought up the shadow detail. Doing these adjustments tends to bring up saturation at the same time. That's OK, although I could have decreased the saturation just a bit. I should have selectively decreased the saturation on the blue truck in the background, but I didn't notice it until now .

Many times, I will darken the background to make the car stand out better, while de-emphasizing background, and clutter at the same time. However, for this one I had a car already dramatically lit by the setting sun, which did not reach the deep background so I had the perfect situation.....except for the shadow over the rear quarter. So I opened it in Photoshop and handpainted the shadows out. Photoshop does have great object-removing tools which, while they do help, hand painting is also necessary. I was a painter in my career, so this comes easily. Finally, I brought the saturation down a bit and opened up the shadows.

On this one, the after pic is shown first.

I purposely used a long lens because I like the perspective-altering effect it offers, which tends to make an unusual car like this even more unusual looking. My crop kept a lot of the trees. I lowered the highlights and brought up the shadows. I was not ambitious enough to paint out the girl's head, Impala trunk lid and chair, which would have consumed a lot of time. This Buick shot is pretty much out of the camera except for cloning out objectionable items. I hand-cloned in Photoshop for the wall and used Photoshop's automatic "content-aware fill" to eliminate the rope cleanly (although some hand-paint touch up is necessary. GNRS (300 of 2).jpg

WOW! Tom thanks for the insight! I play around with photoshop some (I'm not very talented at it) but you have given me a few tips I may be able to incorporate in my efforts. Thanks for the super pictures also! Joe

Thank you Tom! I have an old photo shop program that I use to probably 1000th of it's potential. I will have to try some the editing tips that you gave us today.
