Technical Weird sbc Casting # help

  1. I see where a guy is trying to i.d. this Canadian 1977 GMC van type motor home engine, usually I'm pretty good at these but this one is a stumper. I know Squirrel is out on a cross country rally so we'll have to do it without him, I can only find one reference to this number and it's another guy trying to i.d. it, so maybe there's more than one. His was out of a 1974 caprice estate wagon, which should have a small block 400 or a big block from the factory.
    The mystery number is #3970818

  2. I couldn't find anything that matched ending with 818.

How abut 3970010? There are several applications with that number, both 2 & 4 bolt mains.

A few minutes scrubbing with a small wire brush and some lacquer thinner would help.

Just curious, is this a 2 or 4 bolt block, and what diameter is the bore? There are some rare, 305, 4 bolt main blocks; like I said, they are rare! Very rare! I had a line on one once, that was supposed to be "perfect". When I got there, the block was lying outside, in the dirt, had NO main caps, and was a rusted up (scale rust!), POS (it was a 305 bore block). I did't buy it just the same. What is it with people? Do they really think that outright lying will get them somewhere? I also wonder if it's really 0010. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Most likely a Goodwrench replacement engine.

  9. The motor is still complete, everyone was trying to get him to pull a head or at least look at the balancer and see if it's weighted for a 400, he just said it wasn't accessible, maybe it's still in the RV.
I've had a few 010 blocks and it just doesn't look like 010 to me.
