Hello Everyone! I recently found a Weiand Hi Rise Intake for my Flathead but can not seem to locate a good set of Weiand Heads. Is this a hard task in general for this particular brand or just one of those items that takes time to find. Thanks BBOy
Here's a pic of mine when I got them: unfortunately- one of the heads has a crack so I am looking for another one. these are stamped "8.5" by the water neck.
just buy a pair of The 59A style Canadian heads . and polish them/or not They look like Weiand cheater heads
IF ANYONE HAS PICS of all the different Weiand Heads For Ford Flathead That would be helpful but I will search The Crap out uf the Threads as well
"fr"? My Dad's friend sent me these. He bought them at a swapmeet years ago and had them hanging in his shop. Supposedly they were on a car back in the 50s on the salt.
I've not seen "FR" on Weiands - I have a set that have an "S" and I thought, but do not know for sure, the racing heads were just "R"
I did some trading and got these from Thunderbirdesq. I am planning on putting them on my 59a powered '32 some day. Cheater Heads....
I like weiand stuff, not sure why, I just always seem to gravitate toward it. In my experience, the Weiand heads are HARD to find. Especially in useable shape. The intakes are more common for sure. I got the cheaters Jeff pictured above with this 2x2 intake, but wanted a set of 8ba heads. Took me a lot of searching to find a set, everyone I talked to said they couldn't remember seeing a pair in many years. I lucked out and found a pair at Hershey for a song, and they only needed minor repair. I haven't fired the engine yet though, so we'll see how they work. There's 3 different compression ratios for these for both Ford and Merc. Mine are 8.25/1 but with the .060 overbore, the comp should be a bit more on this engine.
It is isn't it. I'd smooch it if it weren't so damn cold... Thanks, it's not even close to being done yet, should look pretty sharp and go alright too when I'm done. Like No Surf's earlier heads, these later ones have the cr stamped into them near the water neck.
According to Joe Abbin, the Weiand flows slightly better than the typical Offy & Edelbrock heads. It's not much, and it's all at high-lift, high-rpm, but it's something. Of course, modified heads...who knows.
Huh, learn something new every day! An old timer I met at a swap meet during my search also told me that the Weiands run cooler than edelbrock or offy too. His reasoning was that they were thinner, like a stock iron head. Probably just rumor...
I could have sworn someone had mentioned FR means For Racing but I could have been mislead. I can see This is going to be hard to find but THE HUNT is worth it. Additionally, These Are JUst BadAss Pieces for A flathead Period!
I dunno. I had to relieve these above the valves a bit with the SuperSecretHighLiftCam I am running....
According to Mike Davidson (Street Flathead), the Weiand head has a funny sparkplug location that makes it a poor performer. FWIW... Always liked the brand but have heard a lot of people didn't think they ran very well. I'd like to hear some modern comparissons though.
HOW MUCH? QUOTE=rmt;4781655]I recently sold a brand new pair of Weiand heads to a friend of mine. Brand new, unused. In the original box. The box was worn and slightly smushed but the original Weiand box none the less. You could hardly believe your eyes. I have another set on an engine. Weiand intake and chrome 97s with polished SP tops for it. Ain't for sale. Yet. But then everything has a price doesn't it?[/QUOTE]
It seems the Weiand Cheater Heads are Stamped with either 400 or 375 on them. Would this be for Crank size 4" merc or 3 3/4" Ford // Or, 400 Lift/375 Lift for piston to head clearance? BBOY
