    Bob:

Larry was talking about the legendary Richard (SAM) Samson out of the state of Maine. Sam was know as TOHRJ (The Original Hot Rod Junkie) and drove his 34 coupe all over the country. After the 98 trip Sam and the "Maine Barons Racing Team" built a salt car patterned after "She Bad" and that car eventually went 200mph on the salt, unfortunatley not driven by Sam.

Larry, Sam & I did a cross country trip to the 50th Bonneville Speed Week in 98. We went from there to the GG's Pleasanton event. Larry & I were friends of Sam's since that time. We had a blast on that trip, Sam was a hoot for sure.

For reasons known only to Sam he always called me "Minnesota Bob".

Same died in 2001 or 2002, I don't remember which year, he suffered a heart attack while driving his Daily and passed quickly. Larry was devestated, he commented that he kept loosing his best friends.

Here is a picture of Sam's car on the salt with my old relic.

  6. ...Larry Gibson had an old car funeral as well, his casket was hauled in the 47 Chevy p.u. that I built and sold to a friend who sold it to Larry.

Please note that this is an old thread. 2010. I started this thread for my Buddy Larry Lamb (Nailhead40).

Comments on this thread have lead to talk about Sam and Larry Gibson.

Larry G passed about 3 years before Larry Lamb and Sam passed in 2003.

  10. Bob, I never knew Larry, but I remember his '40, from when he would come down to the Springfield NSRA event. I never met him, but I ALWAYS stopped to look at his '40.

    Sorry Bob,
I couldn't start a new thread and wanted to remind people that it had been 10 years. I didn't realize it had been 10 years for Larry too. He was a great guy. I stopped at his house on the way to Bonneville.
