The Candies and Hughes cuda used to run at Fremont for the big meets., Seems like I remember seeing them in the mid to late 60's. I always looked forward to the big meets because you got to see the cars that were in the magazines. I was only about 10 or so around that time. These guys left an impression. RIP

The company his father founded, Otto Candies Industries is still located on old hwy 90 in Boutte Louisiana. They have an impressive fleet of oil field support vessels of various disciplines.

There has got to be a drag strip in the sky, and probably a few engine shops as well

  16. rip. i was fortunate to not only meet him but to work on and drive the 65 ply. jakes speed shop car that was his first funny car. the car was one of a kind. they sectioned 18 inches from the trunk and it looked like it was not altered. way ahead of its time.

Does anybody have any pics and
    some more details and information
on that '65 Plymouth?? It sounds like
it was pretty unique and way ahead
    of its time.

  22. Wasn't Paul severly injured in a accident years ago...seems like I remember him getting hurt on one of his boats... electrical burns if I remember correctly..It was while he was actively racing and he had to take some time off...

Sad to lose another long-time racer...
