I did have tv/movie cars that got me interested in cars as a kid, but ot for here. But you'll see them if you watch the Dukes of Hazzard or Corvette Summer... Two cheezy azz shows I dug as a kid.

Only catch the T.V. after 7-8 P.M. if at all but really have a liking for the old black/white movies some are rather quirky & often times have only brief car footage but worth the idle time since they are real time filmed back when, not over played modern day reenactments.

  6. In the story line is that it was his older brother that funded the build to have a car that would out run the police. HRP

Route 66 and 77 Sunset Strip, I was already a carnut when these shows aired but they helped along the way.
Chatted with Edd Byrnes at the Des Moines fairgrounds car show many years ago. Said he made more money signing autographs then he did on any TV show.
Seen the "Kookie" car many times at the NHRA Museum.
Met Martin Milner, one half of Route 66, where I worked in downtown L.A.
It was weird as I first watched these shows as a kid on BW TV in Canada then the move to SoCal and drive by the 77 Sunset Strip location then meet two of the actors. TV turned reality!

The Kookie car you saw at the museum had to be one of the clones, as the real one was stored, up until a couple of years ago, and restored.

Not a TV series, but there was a movie that came out in the mid 70’s I guess. Two brothers in a ‘55 Chevy and a semi cross country race with an older guy in a Trans Am Bird. As I recall they were to mail there pink slips to some PO and first one there owned both cars.
Didn’t make a big impression on me but I remember I never saw the end of the movie, always wanted to know who won:)

Anyone recall it? Seems like a good thread to ask the question.

while the cars are mostly OT for the HAMB Adam 12 has a bunch of cool cars driving around LA. show started in 1968 so there are still lots of 50's cars driving around. been watching that instead of the news lately.

cop shows are a bit different now.

That would be Two Lane Blacktop, and the Pontiac was a GTO.

Naked City, the episodes where they had street racers from New York and New Jersey. They filmed the show on location right in the streets. The racing you saw on film was the real thing, nothing made at the studio all shots on location.

Route 66, same as Naked City, filmed on location. Lots of custom cars that we would read about in magazines. There they were being driven all over the place..

These two shows went off the air due to how expensive they were to make.. But that's what made them such blockbusters..

Dragnet, some real interesting car episodes..

77 Sunset Strip in '61 had an episode called "The Chrome Coffin", that had an additional T Bucket (Marty Hollmann's Olds Powered) cutie. A little research, I found that Kent Fuller helped on the construction, and Don Prudhomme painted it. Quite an influence on me. Marty-Chrome-Coffin-797x1024.jpg

  30. You bet, at the time it gave you a weekly fix of old cars.

I really liked the Doctors ( Curt) sedan delivery. HRP
