Once you start ... there is no logical place to stop.

It's addictive! You will find yourself spending 40 to 50 unplanned hours on your project.

Please, take my advise. DON'T START.

People as persistant as you, I don't understand, but that looks great in an unbelievable sort of way. (please take this as a complement).

  14. If you're bored and want to do something that actually serves a purpose drill & tap the missing exhaust manifold holes in the heads. Leaving out the very end holes worked ok with stock engines & stock cast iron manifolds but you'll have a hell of a time getting headers to seal. Just a little advice from a guy who's played with a Pontiac once or twice.. You can use the gasket to go by. They always put the holes there on the older engines. The smoothing looks good.

    looks awesome!

  20. Yep . . . been there a couple times, just can't help myself. Did this 3 years ago, won't be starting the motor until next spring. My projects are all "vintage" - at least they are once I get them to completion

You aint kiddin' 63dan63!!! You can't stop after starting! How in the heck are you gonna stop, after you've got one small smooth area! Did this on my '66 Nailhead 425. Had the engine disassembled, thought to myself...Well, we'll give this a try. Ater I had smoothed a small area, I realized how much work I was in for, but again, how ya gonna stop? You've got a casting with a fairly uniform surface-texture, but with an isolated area that you've made smooth. Had to continue. Did the whole block and heads. Holy cow, what a lot of work!...and time! Not that I really regret it. I tend to enjoy detailing. I do like 'em smooth. To me, those rough castings just don't look as nice as the rest of the car, no matter how nice you paint 'em. Your heads look real nice. Now get busy on the block! HA! - Rick

  23. Pontiac all day long. And judging by the exhaust side of the heads not having the bolt holes drilled & tapped on the very end ports I'm guessing it's from the 70s-mid 80s

Wonder if that will decrease engine's ability to rapidly dissapate heat.

    I don't believe so. If there's a difference, I'd guess that it's miniscule.

no, but it will be louder - the rough, crenelated surface aids in quieting the motor.
