Vintage trophies

Sometimes you just have to take what you can get when the getting is good. My wife just rolls her eyes (the look). Gary

 

I picked this up at a local swap meet this morning. It's a Chimp and it's standing on a radiator

 

Only trophy I ever got.........

 

I'm on a mission. Wife thinks I'm crazy. But I'm having fun. These are old ISCA show trophies from the early 70's. Never seen the trophy lady holding a car before and I got two of them. Cool to get stuff you have never seen before. Gary

 

A co-worker gave me this “ last place” trophy. I like it better upside down. Gary

 

My buddy hits the goodwill store three times a day. Sometimes he does good. Pewter gas station award for $2.99. How old is this? It’s really heavy with great quality.

 

The very same buddy (that now collects old trophies) found this for me. What was it awarded for? Gary

Went to an auction yesterday. There were probably 20 trophies from the late 50s-early 60s, mostly from Oswego Dragway, one from US 30, and one from Great Lakes. Came home with one...couldn’t afford more than that. Spoke with the gentleman that won the trophies. He ran a ‘55 Chevy and a ‘40 Willys Coupe. Had timing slips on the garage wall from back in the day. Was running low 11s @ 126 mph. Said the Willys was fast as hell, but scary to drive.

 

Is there a club for trophy collectors, do they give out a trophy for the Best Collection every year?

 

No. Because @Moriarity would win every year.

Two more trophies. You have to be really careful not to get reproduction toppers....they are making them. I like to get the trophies from the original owners.

 

Built a large shelf out in my garage. Hope they all fit. I counted about 65 trophies. Plus I have more not shown. Can you say "Obsession"?

Brenda likes to call the dust collectors and there is a good bit of truth to that statement. HRP

 

When my Dad was 16 he borrowed his older brothers car and entered it in his high school car show and won this.

I collect pewter and that gas station is the coolest piece of pewter I have ever seen. Great collection.

 

My friend gave me this trophy that he won at Detroit Dragway in 1960. He was D/A class winner.

 

Those old trophies are cool.Look like works of art.Not like the cheap plastic ones given out at shows today!
