Yup. We have to get all of the ones we install shaved to make them round. Luckily, we have a guy up the street who still does it. I have dibs on his machine if he decided to give it up.

like troublemaker 427 said. a pair of cheater slicks or a pair of tall slicks that fit a stock wheel well that you can really use. i have a old pair of m&h's that are 7x30.5. love to use them, but hate to wear them out.

He did a run of them to celebrate the 100th year of Indy 500 I think it was, I only stumbled on them after doing a search on his site for Indy. Limited run I think and not DOT approved but I couldn't resist!

In the early sixties they announced a new development in tires that could be moulded in 1 piece with no cords or reinforcements.

They were on the cover of Popular Mechanics. They said the plastic or synthetic rubber material could be made any color. The one on the magazine was red. Looks like they left the dye out and put light bulbs inside.

Car manufacturers were supposed to start using them but it never happened.

How about this one, America's Safest Tire ca 1939. Worth watching for the racing, stunts, wrecks, and the guy driving to work in his Duesenberg convertible. But the new tire is pretty sharp too.

Pardon the thread mine but has anyone come across a wider Speedway Blue Streak? I saw a picture of a Corvette running 8.15 x 15 but have only found 7.75's for sale.
