most of the manuals are from the mid 50s to mid 60s with a few being very early 50s, I'm on a mission to get sun manuals so I hope the stack keeps growing

very nice, i bought that same one yesterday! it had a bottom cabinet with it that I left behind, looked like someone drove into it and had some rust issues, a was a little to beyond hammer and dolly work, killed me to tell the guy he is better off sending it to the scrap yard, I did pull the knob and latch off it though, i have a cabinet that is missing the knob so it wasn't a total loss

a buddy of mine has a Allen distributer tester & stand + all the bells/whistles & books that go with it that he'd like to sell, he asked me to see if there was any interest in such things and what he could get for it?

i used to do some contract work for "sun electric" installing the new -at that time -computer car scope machines ! seen several nice sun diagonistic scopes tossed in dumpsters and hit w/ sledge hammers destroyed by sun employees ! they would not sell or rob any parts off of them ! WHAT A SHAME !!!! I DID JUST GET A SUN DIST. MACHINE -nice piece and works like new ! put a vintage corvette dual point dist. in it ,the other day ! brought back a lot of old school work memories !

its hard to put a price on sun testers in general, there are so many combinations, the condition ranges greatly and geological condition comes into effect. I would say for testers in poor to fair condition will range anywhere from free to $350, good condition and working nearly 100 percent $100 to $600 and showroom new $600-1500+

the sun distributor units command a bit more money, I have seen people ask anywhere to $250-$2500. I am looking into buying one or two and have learned that if you get a good working one for under $350 you did well, $600 you didn't do good or bad and anything $650+ it better be perfect with revamped electronic or you over paid

Hello,
Excuse me for my bad English, I can write only about the translator.
 I am looking for a long time, the connectors / plugs for my test leads. The test leads are connected to my Sun 900 Engine Analyzer (1962) I have seen many many pages at eBay/usa, but unfortunately found nothing. I need only 4 pieces, maybe somebody still has which in his garage lie around?
Maybe somebody can also say to me the correct name of these plugs?
I also already look very much long for the vintage Timing-Light, this is special, only for the Sun tester 900 (it is connected with a 4-pole plug in the 'Voltage-Leakage-Unit', see on my photo)

I would be pleased much about an assistance of you.

Hi Mike, if you have someone with a lathe and machinist skills they can make you a set of connectors. You will need to get your own wires and put the connectors on the end. Another option would be to change the connectors to something that is currently available, its not original but it will get you going until you can find a stock replacement.

The timing light will be hard to come by, maybe a member will have one if not keeping an eye on ebay is a good option, another possible option is to change the connector to accept another sun timing light.

thanks for your hint...I look every day on Ebay/usa...
I do not want to change timing light, otherwise I would have to change the circuit, which is very difficult. You can see that in my wiring diagram.

Is this Mr. Washburn from 40th & York?

I used to work for Sun back in the 70's in Clifton, NJ. Fixed quite a few testers but none as old as the ones I see here. I still have is a TDT 11 Tach Dwell Meter.

I knew about these scopes because they were being sold by the school I attended (and now teach Automotive Technology at). The SS-400 is the first scope I ever used in 1988.

Fast forward 25 years and here I am using them on a daily basis. The TUT-1015 has been hooked up to nearly every kind of automobile imaginable from lowly Yugo engine to a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. It regularly sees duty on classic cars from Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Shelby, Bugatti, Jaguar, and many more.

Fixed quite a few of those BIG SCOPES in the 947 Testers.

I bought a 947 Analyzer to get the SS 400 Scope, the scope worked well but the rest did not. I bought a 945 for the SS 110 scope , it is a lot smaller than the SS 400 but uses the same circuit boards. I had a 820 Analyzer where the scope power transformer failed, impossible to find. Have a 404 Dist. Machine and several VAT testers. The Sun stuff is hard to beat and so well made. Have my Grandfathers Timing light from the 50's and it still works great. Nice to hear from other Sun Tester people.

@ John Washburn.I may be way off base here,BUT.If that was an old style CRT TV,I would say that the High Voltage transformer for the picture tube was going south.If that is a CRT type unit,that would be where I would start checking.And be CAREFUL,they don`t call it the High Voltage transformer for nothing.Hope this helps.

Mike, I did not realize it but I have a 4 pin timing light but it's in very bad condition. I will need to keep it as it goes to one of my machines but it looks to be the same as the diesel timing light. The diesel is hardwired into the control box with no 4 pin connector. I'm wondering if it can be converted. I happen to have a diesel timing light and I will open it up to see if it is 4 wires vs 2 wires.
