Nice pictures of Jimmy Bryan, he took his rookie test at Indy in my dad's car, my brother Jimmy also named his son James Bryan Caruthers after Jimmy Bryan

  2. "Dicks Unlimited"???

    Hope that was a typo!!

  3. Is that 23 James MacElreath's USAC sprinter?

I saw it there, by that point I was so overwhelmed, I don't think I had enough on the ball to take a pic though:(. Yours look nice.

Thanks for the photos, Gene. That means there are at least five of those issues still around.

These are great pictures. First is Elmer George in his new lesoski sprinter, Foyt in Wally Meskowski sprinter, Tommy Hinnershitz passing Bill Brown, Eddie Sachs in Pete Schmidt's sprinter, Tommy Hinnershitz again and last is Johnny Thomson driving under a flipping Don Branson in Bob Estes champ car at Williams Grove. This was a heat race.

These are from the July 1962 race,

Jiggs Peters in the former Belond Indy winner, I think the picture marked Daywalt is Chuck Hulse,
    Demler 99 is Bud Tinglestad,
Porky Rachwitz in the Kimberly RE Buick, a Mickey Thompson car

    Unknown

Then Jack Conely in the Dunn 89

  17. Here are two of my Sports Illustrated magazines. My memory says Sweikert was killed in a sprint car at Salem. Bryan was killed in a sprint car at Langhorne. Is this correct?

  18. How is Lee Osborne? I used to go out to Jamestown to his shop to have some work done on my street rods. I see him at the Goodguys when he comes back to Indy. Is he still up in New York out in the boondocks?

Charlie Wiggans probably the best African American Driver to strap into a Big Car. I am sure most of the people following this thread know of the Gold and Glory Sweepstakes that was all black drivers. Charlie was a four time Champion of that series, he was also known at "the Negro Speed King" If you have a fondness for racing history I would reccomend you read the book titled For Gold & Glory

Josh, you might like this one, it's From Cincy probably 1954. The only one who I know for sure in this picture is Johnnie Tolan on the outside

Roy, the photo from the race bowl is great. On the song, I've got to try to download it. Believe it or not, I haven't heard it since I heard the writer perform it before the Hut 100 in 1960.
