Not sure if this has been posted before. Circle track photo spread of Josh`s Ellison Spl.

Apparently Circle Track must have had an Editorial change in direction recently. One of the reasons I lost interest in CT was because they got away from doing the Historical articles.
Also they slanted darn near everything to stock car racing.
Glad to see they are covering the Open Wheel historic stuff again.

Glad to hear that, Buildy. I might subscribe again if they've changed direction.

Unfortunately Circle Track and other magazines only publish articles to keep the advertisements apart. Unless history helps sell more tires-headers-cams-pistons-etc they won't do much more than 3 or 4 pieces a year. Stock cars [in all forms] consume lots more parts than open wheel cars so they will always be the favored content. When many readers think 1999 is "the good old days" you need to look elsewhere for vintage coverage.

I wouldn't really consider the 49 historic. Was it not a NOS chassis? That article is a little bit misleading. They're headed in the right direction though!

I was looking through some photos I've already posted when something caught my eye in this photo. This is Jan Opperman in Topeka, August 1969 IMCA race. Under the cockpit there seems to be an extra "bar". I see the side nerf bars (which go clear to the front of the car around the headers), the rear radius rod, and braces for the roll bar. I don't know that I've ever noticed an additional bar where this is located. Sort of looks like a shower grab bar. Anybody have any wisdom on this?

    Just a guess.
I have a similar bar on my car used as a step-for those with limited mobility.

Wonder if that 4X(I think) was Speedy Bill`s car?

I have no idea what the bar on the side is about.

These have already been posted on here, but I believe all of these pictures are of the same car - if that helps. These (2) are from 1970 in Tampa. (That's my dad Luke in the #8 car with Mac Clingan standing next to him.) I believe Curt Grogan told me the car next to Opp's in the last pic was driven by Eddie Leavitt. (Back in the first pic in previous post - I was told the other car was driven by Ray Lee Goodwin)

I thought there was a weight jacker in front of that bar - thinner and angled to the front. It almost seems like a secondary nerf bar - obviously they were concerned about the left side with the long side nerf - maybe this kept a tire from crushing the side panel. I don't know.

I'm not sure what that angled 'handle' is. I was thinking it was a brake lever, but its so far away I don't think it's either, you'd need some mighty long arms to reach it.

Made a slight bit of progress last night. The chassis is all finished and I got it off the table and onto the ground. Using the shop crane worked surprisingly well. Body should be painted by the end of the week.

    Question for the gang:
I've been on the Hinchliffe Stadium Facebook page talking about the Joe Barzda stretched midget and now we're wondering - since Joe basically just moved the front axle forward, has anyone heard of him moving that front axle back to where it was as a midget, and run it as a midget, again. How about other stretched midgets? Anyone ever hear of one going back to midget status?

.....'SO good! 'Keep'em comin' Roy, even the TQ's. The Bogan website shows that photo as El Toro Speedway, 1966. My favorite one of all (TQ's) was one you sent me. Pancho in the TQ and standing alongside: Danny, Doug, Duane "Pappy" Carter, Johnnie Parsons, Sr. and Johnny Parsons, Jr. Thanks a million.

I've got one of those Thimble Drome cars that my father had. Mine doesn't have the engine anymore.

  25. This Thimble Drome is a 'Pusher'.....and never had a motor.......

Mine had a motor and you would thether it to a pole and it would run around in circles around the pole.
