Hi Bob Cicconi. You probably remember my dad Henry better than me. I hung-out with Guy back in '72at Pinebrook when I snapped this photo of you, Bud Mills #0, and 'Black Jack' Bertlong #73 waiting for the push. At that time I didn't think I'd ever miss Pinebrook, but I confess, it was some of the best 'ashfalt' racing I've seen.

    Rootie,
I was at INDY mile and they stoped at lap 51? so the could all refuel and change right rear tires[with a pentaly/] if they wanted to. Did it make a better race? Not in my opion. Drivers have to lear how to save their tires and let the race run! Bigger motors do not make for better racing. And I think you would agree. It is the race car DRIVER that makes the difference if you let him.

Steve: If there are no decals existing for the Rasmussen sprinter there's a guy named Mark Tutton that will make any decals you want. His business is called Starfighters Decals. He's a really nice guy and has made various decal sheets for me in the past. He's not expensive and will do them in a fairly short turnaround time. His email address is [email protected]. You will need to provide him with photos of the lettering on the car and tell him dimensions and what scale you want, etc. Tell him I recommended you to contact him. He'll help you out with no problem.

Ron: I DO remember you! I remember one sprint car race at Williams Grove when we were both racing a WOO race. I was in the pits changing the gear in the car I was running and you were taking time trials. I could hear the engine noise as you were on the clock, when all of a sudden it got quiet. I looked up and saw your car going through the air upside-down between turns 3 and 4 after you hit the cushion and flipped. I'll never forget that. Luckily you didn't get hurt, but you were done for the night.

[IMG] I had a friend tell me that this car was the old Ezra Brooks car, and I thought I would check with the experts. The car was owned by Harley Haynes of Ohio and ran in the early to middle 70's. This pic. is of Rocky Fisher but I think Bobby Black also ran the car.

Does anyone have any pictures of the Sprint car races at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, IA from 1967-1972?
As a young kid I stood out side the gate at turn 4 and listened to the engines and caught some mud. That is what got me started in engine building and racing.
Thanks for all of this great history on this web site!

This car looks like the Kuzma champ car that was made into a sprint car. It was sponsored by MacIntosh, some sort of wiskey. Old Bill might have a photo of it at Reading.

  22. Yes Aldo Andretti was injured at Des Moines, Iowa and the first person to reach the scene of the crash was Lenard McCarl, who in later years was very graphic in describing the injuries suffered by Aldo.

Dave-Just imagine being in that last car at full throttle surrounded by other cars on an imperfect track. That was guts!
