Anyone care to put a date (or era) to these shocks? They have about a 4 inch stroke. Stamped Monroe. One is stamped for the left rear and one for the right. They look rebuildable.

    Pavement indy/roadster?

    Thoughts?

Wynns #1 restored the RZ #42 Trevis and owned it until selling it to Dr. Paul Mondo. Maybe he wants the trailer too?

    joemarsicano,
The Monroe shocks you have were commonly used on the front of sprint and champ cars from the late 50s thru the early 70s. Are they for sale?

The RZ car was restored while owned by Bill Chapin. I believe that Floyd and Ron Trevis did the the bulk of the fab. work others did the cosmetic work.Perhaps Baldtireman can confirm. It was a great car and I enjoyed owning it.

I am no help on the RZ 42 as far as who restored it. I watched it on the national scene, and on the local tracks, later. If memory serves, it later spent time as #21 on the western Penna. circuit. My next recollection is of the completely restored car in a museum(that later went broke) on Interstate 80,near the Sharon Speedway. I think "Bud" Miller,he of the original All Star Circuit Of Champions, had something to do with the museum. When the museum failed, some lost their cars to museum creditors. :eek:I have what I believe are the original ,long exhaust pipes from the 42.

got a couple questions for you. am in the process of bringing a 48 hillegass sprint back to life. wondering about the availability of the leather piece that makes up the seat and surrounding area`s around the driver. are these available? interchangeable?...any idea`s on costs? i have one that came with the car but it was stored for along time and is very stiff. thanks in advance...jim

If the one you have was in fact from that car, figure out a way to use it.

Pappy's stable was 78-82 from what I know from pictures. The numbers could have strayed outside that at some point in time.

I now think the driver is Andy (Pops) DeVercelly. Definitely not Pickels.

yeah 78 upward for pappy's cars.

Buildy, they all look alike in the 1930's era for the most part.

Unfortunatly, fully upholstered cockpits went the way of Firestone Diamonds, but a good upholstery shop can use what you have for a pattern and make up a duplicate in about any material/pattern you like.

    Hi Chuck,
Welcome aboard. I was there too. Was that the Wergland car that Bob Marvin lost his life in?

See if you can contact Al Consoli. He posts on here occasionally.

He has several very nice shots of the car.

    Jim ..

If other than being stiff the upholstery that you have is in good shape, a leather restoration expert may be able to bring it back to life.

I've a friend in Canada (soon to move to the USA) who has done wonders with leather upholstery in such things a antique buggys (as in horse & buggy,) antique automobiles and such.

He may know someone in your area who does this. If you have interest eMail me at [email protected] and I'll put you in touch with him.
