    Brian-
Is Don Noble a driver? That name dont ring a bell.

  6. He said he drove Flemington in a modified and a sprinter. I don't know how true it all was. It was back in the 60's.

But then if you're a driver and concerned about just what's in front of you at the moment, a few names slip under the radar while you're getting ready to go back out.

That Horn car- Was it based off of the red/white Jewell Box?

  10. The blue # 6 of Spike's is the former Peters Offy driven mostly by Joie Chitwood among others. Mark Light also owned car at one time.
    Merry Christmas to all. ml9

Your Avatar sure looks like mine! Any info on that car?
I had a guy come to see the Riley Yesterday who offered $18K but I told him I thought it was worth more. Turns out he is currently restoring some of Parnelli Jones' cars for him.
He measured the wheelbase at 93.5 inches and told me that would make it a sprint car.
Here are more pics and one from a track near Fresno CA in the mid-60s judging from the looks of my Brother (in blue) and Dad (in red).

Here is a few shots of the newest project on the build Table in my shop.

The Ratkee/Miller Spl. for Bonnieville. It will race in the V4 class and get a full cage.. The Engine Basicly has to be a Naturally asperated, Non-Overhead conv., Flat four. But it can Breath!! It can have a Hilborn unit and a Vertex Mag shovled in it if you want. This is my Dummy block with a COOL cast aluminum bottom pan. Lots of new good parts on this one.. Mac Miller style.:D It gets my body from the cowl back, I'll roll an aluminum hood to match up to the Repo Cast Aluminum Miller style grille.

As with my other builds, I'll keep you guys well informed of the progress.

    Joshua Shaw

brian, the Horn car was an older version of the Jewel Box. When i got it , it was almost exactly like the Jewel. Big differece was it had a 331 Chevy V8 in it. No injectors though; it had three Stromberg 97 carbs.

  15. After Ted Horn, few if any drivers that I heard of ever got the handle on the Jewell Box. Seems it was really suited for Ted, which makes sense -since it was his own design from what I've read. Might be a case "pretty-ill handling car"?

NEW BOOK! Just recieved a copy of LANGHORNE No Man's Land by L.Spencer Riggs, 548 pages of track history and information. Just flipped through it and read most of the pre 1935 photo captions. GREAT BOOK, glad to have been able to help lend some literature on the early years history. ISBN number is 13: 978-0-9742668-1-7 I would think most books stores can get a copy published by Pitstop Books.

  18. Re my Avatar, it says Dreyer on the hood but I don't know if it was an actual Dreyer car or just the engine. It does appear to be very similar to the Cracraft car driven by Rex Mays & others, including M.L. but nothing definite. I would like to know, that's for sure.

Yeah, the pan's way cool (not that the rest isn't ;)).

Not fully up on the Bangers, yet (learining though). Would that fit on an A block? Or are the B/C blocks different at the pan rail?

  25. Josh,

It's going to be fun to watch the Ratkee/Miller Spl project.
Be careful you can catch "slat fever" real easy.

What diameter tire are you going to run?

27" inch all the way around.. Will probably look a lil goofy, but thats what they want. Don't worry about me catching "Salt Fever" I've been there a couple times over the years crewing on cars. It's neat.. But it aint Dirt track racing.
