Boooooooooo!!!!!!! That's coming from a 265/283 guy.:D I'm actually wasting a bunch of time and money on a modern version of a 301. I can't wait to hear all of the 434 SBC guys telling me how I can build a 600 hp motor for the same money. I know, but do I need 600 hp with a 6" tire?

Wasn't it Roth who said, "If I gotta explain you wouldn't understand." I mean that plays, a little...

  3. they will say yes, but then they are probably of the same mind that 1000+ is streetable after watching all the sickweek and drag week stuff.

Ive grown up with early small blocks so I do get irritated on the whole small block is overrated stuff, but then the people yelling how overrated it is are the ones then trying to run corvette valve covers on 307 and then wonder why the block is sucking in gaskets all the time.

If the small block Chevrolet V8 is overrated, then it's also the largest case of mass hysteria that the world has ever seen. Millions of people who have used it successfully in almost all forms of racing are, to a person, mistaken in their choice.

Oh, they have some uses I guess; I don't mind a 327 in a C2 Corvette (I even have one), and the occasional 350 in a boat (had a couple of those, too). I just wouldn't build a Hot Rod around one.

    Correlation is not causation.

Popular does not necessarily equal good. After all, Budweiser is the most popular beer in the US, and that is like sex in a canoe.

I have always had SBC's, but I would contend that, in many cases, the SBF is actually the better engine, and the first-generation Hemi is better than both.

Budweiser may be #1 in sales but while a 350 Mouse is a good engine, Bud is sure s hell not good beer.

I'm a Ford guy (Windsor and flathead) and a Coors drinker. But that doesn't mean that sbc's aren't good engines AND I'll always drink a free Budweiser or almost any free beer for that matter as long as its cold.

With 600 HP you are going to need a constant supply of 6" tires.............:)

A SBC in a boat? That's likely what happened to the titanic. If it had a FE or a 455 it would have out run the bergs.

Your car on a rollback usually means your cash is on a launch pad

I'll see your Raquel and raise you DeDe Lind and Some Hippy Art. . Just as both are older than me, I like the era, the look, and the sound. I don't see my old wheels, intakes or even cam grinds gaining any advantage over 50 years of technology and design, but they are neater, fun to chase down, and, if my car is fast by 1968 standards, I am happy . After 1968, the world changed for my mentors gone was dad's 59 Chevy, replaced by an 390 4 speed fastback, and my uncle's y block was replaced by a 440 Magnum in purple. 6a00d83451f23a69e20148c7a59e5a970c.jpg Mitchell.jpg

Well, I've never had sex in a canoe, but I'm willing to give it a go! I'll do anything once, if I like it I'll do it twice...

I believe you may have missed the point of comparing Budweiser Beer to "sex in a canoe".

I never found my 'missing' Hildebrandt valve covers. (off my '54 Cad) May the bastard that took them soak in the urine from a thousand camels.

Sex in a canoe is pretty much really sex in the water. As in:foreplay in the canoe... sex in the water.

    Guitar players drink whiskey blues!

Man this whole argument can be summed up real easy. If you want to go fast, why are you building an old car anyway? A few bone stock sports cars out there are untouchable against all but the most hugely built vintage rides. We own and build old stuff because we love it. Because it's awesome. My ot sports car with an exhaust, Cai, and tune will roast a lot of the built cars on here, and I don't have 30k in it. But it ain't old! It ain't the same! It's nowhere near as cool or fun as riding in my 100hp flathead! And look how cool squirrels drag car is. And Moriarty's 40. They friggin ooze vintage cool.

So vintage wins every time for my money.

Like palmer summed up in his post above too, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. 70 in my shoebox feels like warp speed...
