300 of the Lancaster B II fitted with Bristol Hercules engines were constructed; this was a stopgap modification caused by a shortage of Merlin engines as fighter production was of higher priority

Not all Lancs had merlins. This plane, the one my father flew in had the radial engines. Wrench 409 THanks for the photoshop!

  7. Several years ago, I would stop at Nanton to look at the then derelict Lanc. on my way
down to Coaldale from Calgary. Good to hear they are restoring it finally. Funding was
always an issue for that group, if I recall correctly.....

The Calgary Lancaster was taken off the pedestal back in the early 90s and moved to the southeastern end of the airport, the plane rest on its wheels and is slowly been restored, in addition the museum has received funds to restore a Mosquito, ( plane not the insect) and a Hurricane which the city =has in its possession

I was not aware there were so few flying, there is one I see a couple times a year flying over my house near Edmonton, I have not been able to grab a photo of it yet...

This is one of my favorite 54 Corvette race cars. Fairfield/Hamilton Ohio based car that ran at Tri State, Edgewater, Kil Kare, National Trials and Indy. This 6 Cylinder Vette made it to the 10's and was a record holder. [IMG]

  20. That's who I thought it looked like too. I just couldn't find any thing that confirmed she did a try-out for Addams Family. She would have been about 21 in 1964, and she was working as a stripper in Vegas, so she might have given Hollywood a try too.

A couple of snap shots my Dad took as a teenager. This is either the USS Akron or the USS Macon flying over his house in Cuyahoga Falls, OH.

Here is Mantle's salary history. It's not huge money, but was better than average in the early 50's and pretty good in the later 50's.

When you put it into today's money context the differences are startling. Mickey was flush, but not like today's players. Mickey made between 13 and 36 times the National per capita income. The highest paid player in 2009, Alex Rodriguez, made 656 times the average per capita income. WOW  what a difference, is Alex that much better? IMHO sports/movie people are paid too much now.

This was done quick, so feel free to blast for any mistakes in the chart.

Cool photos! It is amazing how many people don't know the difference between a blimp and a dirigible (zeppelin).
