First car I ever owned, paid £40 for it in 1966(?), 2 litre engine was basically a TR4 one so that was the way to hop them up. Went on to own two estates (wagons), had some great times in them.

    more Chicago, urban decay 1940's

The grime on the buildings came from the massive coke ovens at the southside steel mills.

It's hard to imagine what life was like back then.
It certainly was a smoggy place among other things.

The MEL engines in the Edsels were similar to the FE engines but were not available in the Fords, IIRC, so there were other differences besides the sheetmetal.

And there were two distinct wheelbases because they were based on the Ford Chassis for some models, and the Mercury chassis for others.

Moefuzz, thanks for showing what makes Chicago a great city. Also, your Virginia City photo should serve to remind us that it survives like that to this day, having been saved and partially restored. It's just an hour up the road from Carson City on a mountaintop, south of Reno. One of the great side trips.

Grahame, I haven't seen the shot of Fuller's Dymaxion with the US Capitol in the background before. THANKS for posting it! I wonder if this is the one that survives (?). I think there's only one, and with no interior, as no one knows what it should be like. Any HAMBer know some modern details?

I guess, if you see those old Coca-Cola ads, Santa would be a Coke addict, too. Our society has always had some funny, ironic twists to it, eh?
