Thanks Jnaki, I knew they held some form of gas or gasoline. I was pretty young and couldn't figure why or how they went up and down, still not sure. I remember the ones by Long Beach airport better than the one by the 102 brewery. But they are etched in my memory forever.........

    Hello,

Talk about something etched forever in our memories, we loved little cars from the very early days. This old photo could have taken place at the Long Beach amusement center we all know as the PIKE. But, those light poles and building do not look familiar. We saw the original PIKE with all of its attractions, then years later, as teens, used most of the rides.

Finally, my wife and I stopped here for a short respite from a long drive and the Cyclone Racer was starting its destruction. The Pike attractions were already being taken down. It took several years, but the whole place would be gone by 1980.

The merry-go-round cars and trucks were on the Eastside of the whole PIKE area.

“As usual, my brother was in a firetruck that was in front of me. He always tried to be first in everything, which he was, until later. But, I liked to ride in the car that looked the coolest, with headers and skirts...Woo Hoo...a 1948 hot rodder in the making.”
