Is it just the photo or is the front of the engine offset to the left?

Yes offset to left and on an angle to get driveline to right, appears to be quite the u joint angle, note driver on left, with vertical offy offset left, Watson cars, driver on right, the driveline runs next to driver in this style car, when they started to tip the engine or lay in down to left to get driveline to right, driver left side, the Watson cars were the top dog many years

Wow ! You might have the Picture that started the racer trailer/hauler race, The man was way ahead of his time. Today at the races, the Semi/Haulers/Toters/Trailers are Spectacular at the events I attend, open wheel dirt, Sprints/Midgets/Super Late Model. It blows me away the money involved today, not only the cars and engines, the spare car/engines/parts in the trailer/hauler/truck involved BIG $$$. Kool Pic AL G

She sure looks out of place with the other photos of a 50s-60s family camping...

She reminds me of one of the girls from Hee Haw...

"Locals". We really don't see trains like these very much anymore, trains that serve "local" areas and short distances. This train is actually more of a freight train than anything else. One box car, four baggage cars, and one passenger car on the end of the train. In the SoCal area, because of the population density, there are "locals" that serve San Diego to L.A. and Santa Barbara to L.A. (about a 100 miles in each direction) and that's about it in the West. The East is another matter, with Amtrak's "Northeast Corridor" and the "Empire Corridore" which serves the New York, Boston, Washington DC, Philidelphia, etc. areas.

Amtrack does have some decent trains running East to West or West to East. Starting at the top of the map, the "Empire Builder" runs between Seattle and Chicago; the "California Zepher" runs between Oakland and Chicago (the Interstate 80 route), the "Southwest Chief" runs between Los Angeles and Chicago (the old Santa Fe Super Chief route), and the "Sunset Limited" between Los Angeles and New Orleans (through Texas). Of course, these trains make plenty of stops along the way so anything in between can be accessed by train, too. I'm a confirmed Amtrak user, going to Chicago on the "Southwest Chief" in a couple of weeks. I love train travel, pretty much had it with airports and air travel these days...

  28. Safety cars needn't be ugly like this. The 47 Tucker was a safety car and it was far from ugly.
OTH, these days all cars are considered safety cars and they are as ugly if not uglier that the Aurora.
