  1. As to the Little Deuce Coupe, actually it was started by a guy named Ziggy who channeled the body and it sat besides his mothers house for years. Catallo bought it and then the next body work was by Pete's Custom Collision in Detroit before it got to Alexander bros.
It sat in front of our tent in Daytona several years in a row in the nineties.
Restored and owned by Chili Catallo's son, Curt, and his sister.
Mechanically, in the beginning, it was built by members of the Trompers car club and Catallo. I replaced the tranny several times.
I was there in the beginning.

I was just going off what's common knowledge, no doubt the hands in any given car with history have to be many. What was your tent? I don't recall, but I know I musta stopped there many times, the coupe was in front of tents near the tunnel.

It would be interesting to have some of the old pics alongside one from todayof the same area to compare what once was. Kind of a before and after.

Jimi: I agree with you Indy! A lot of different folks contribute stuff that illustrates the VINTAGE aspects of our culture, cars included. Myself, I like vehicles, military, entertainers and vintage entertainment. The clothes and even kitchen decor are cool! It's ALL part of the total experience we lived through ... AND it's fun to "recap" it! I didn't realize how much (I thought) I'd forgotten until this thread came along! Thanks Dog and EVERYBODY.

Nads, SixDogs may have thought of Bobby Hatfield. He was half of the Righteous Brothers, along with Bill Medly. Died a year or two back of lung cancer.

Oops, you are right. I was thinking of The Righteous Brothers, Bill and Bobby hatfield..
Bobby recently passed away at age 63 and died in his sleep. I still don't know which is which.

Bobby Hatfield is in the rear; Bill Medley is in the front. Bobby Hatfield, unfortunately, passed away from drug abuse...stupid ass.

This is my '37 Chev that I had in the 1960's. I drove as six cyl for a while and even dragged and won my class until the babbit bearings gave out. Swapped in a 265 GM with 3 speed trans and a hyd clutch out of a GM pickup. Engine bolted right in with a front mount.
Used a '55-'57 rear axle that bolted up and for a teenager it was cool.
Used Ditzler 9000 double-deep black laquer and sanded a lot of coats. The pinstripe was tape perfectly applied and it looked great.
Car was a Master Deluxe with knee action shcoks but I found a Master with a straight axle and yanked those worthless shocks off. Wish i still had it but lost storage and had to do the military thing.

We can hear as well as see and this has both. Check out the audience and listen to the obvious. Add some bass if you can do it; they sang pretty deep. This is the way it was.

Yes that is them but I don't recall the others names right off hand either.
The story behind the pic, as best I recall, is that while Gable,Stanwycke et al were filming the movie To Please A Lady, they became friendly with many drivers of the day one of which was Johnnie Parsons. At a race they attended (I forget what race) J.P. was leading by a large margin and his crew chief was giving him the E-Z sign. Well J.P. didnt do 'E-Z' and after a couple of laps responded with a "sign" of his own. Apparently Gable and the others got quite a kick out of that and some time later J.P. gets a large envelope containing that pic.
