1962 Corvair Monza GT Styling studio
No connection that I know of between the two. The guys in the car just resemble those two famous guys.
But, probably more fun to polish...
The first attached shot is Jud Larson at Daytona in 1959. Notice that they ran the Monza tread tires on the new high banked track.
The second shot must be Pat Flaherty running track roadsters for the Granatelli's Hurricane Hot Rod Racing Association; probably around 1947/48. The only thing that I wonder about is the four leaf shamrock on the driver's helmet. Photos I've seen of Flaherty always had just three leaves.
The third photo shows Jimmy Davies after qualifying the Pat Clancy car at Indianapolis in 1950. Davies could be a pretty tough character as he had been on his own since the age of 14 when he left home. Sometime during 1951 he got drafted and saw action in Korea before getting back to racing in 1953.
Embarrased??? I would have been bragging about it. Even in grade school in the '50's, I knew what a Cord was and thought they were very cool.
I remember once when my dad had his '50 Lincoln in for service, the dealer gave him a '38 Buick loaner. I wanted to keep it! I was just an old car to my dad but was very cool to me.
