If it's not ("it has been said") fake news, thank you GM.
Palm trees are more akin to paradise than the 3rd world look of tangled wires and leaning poles with falling cross arms rotting off at ground level.
It's more than a little interesting to have car guys in the center of the car culture of the world complaining about roads VS rails to work.
I'll take palms and tree branches any day over a tangled mess of wires overhead.

  6. Ok, enough with the snow pictures! I'm freezing my ASS off here in Missouri. Almost 60 at 5 am this morning, and it's about 24 now. No snow though, but it's suppose to snow in the next few days. Man I hate the weather in this God forsaken place.

Kelly Petillo with his Kay Jewelers sponsored car at Indianapolis in 1939. Notice the radius rod going through the "blister" on the side of the car. These were on both sides on the car. For the longest time I thought these might have been oil tanks because so many cars had them. Turns out that when Indianapolis went to the International Formula for 1938 (and also no longer made riding mechanics mandatory) there was a requirement for the car to have a minimum width of 85 centimeters (33.46 inches) in the cockpit area. And the rules further stated that empty bodywork didn't count. To get around the rule builders started running the suspension through the added on body pieces so that newer cars were legal. Grand Prix cars (like the Boyle Maserati) and converted two man cars already met the width requirements. BTW, riding mechanics were still allowed for many years although no one used them. I think as late as 1960 the entry blank still had a provision for a entered car to be a two seater with a riding mechanic.
