Yes, of course, you are perfectly right. And not just the plug drill.
Imagine synchronising all four engines: setting them up for equal torque/equal power at the same RPM, an even greater challenge. I vaguely recall hearing that some twin-engine dragsters of that era did not give twice the power at the drive wheels, nowhere near it. MT and his crew must have mastered that art, or they could not have run that speed.
While on the subject of MT, isn't it wonderful that the 50-year old Challenger 2 (Autolite spl) ran nearly 450mph last year? Even with new engines, and some other updating, this is an achievement unequalled by anyone else, ever, AFAIK.

There is no requirement that all 4 engines make exactly the same power. In fact that would be almost impossible. Since they are coupled together the RPM is bound to be the same. Some time before the Challenger, MT ran a twin engine car with a flathead and a Chrysler in it. And the Challenger Two originally ran with a blown Ford SOHC in back and an injected SOHC in front because he couldn't see around the blower. Yes, Danny did good at Bonneville and everyone is happy about that. But don't forget that the Dalton-Jackson-Fox "Flashpoint" Streamliner. A two wheel drive single engine car went 451 exit speed off the trailer, And Turbinator went over 500 out the back. Rick in the NT3 and Eddie in the Chop Shop car he built, both went over 400 on gas. Rick with 258 CID. So it was a fast year for lots of guys.
