  2. Death wish! That give me the chills just looking at those guys under that car with those bumper jacks holding it up. Lost a classmate in high school that way.

Looks like a NZ car - right-hand drive and on left side of road.

Look closely at the picture, the bumper jacks were used to raise the car (scary enough), but the car is resting on two stacks of tires. Not an ideal set up, but not certain death either.

Any information on the first attached photo, Rootie? It almost looks like some of the early Leader Card midgets indoors somewhere. IIRC, Bob Wilke was a very early distributor of Offy midget engines starting before WWII.

The second photo looks like one of the ex-Thorne Engineering cars although I'm not sure which one. This may be from 1947 with Mel Hansen as the driver.

Thanks for all of the interesting photos!

Don't know the year, or track, but that's Joe Sostilio and Johnny Bernardi in the L-C midgets and Bob Wilke standing between them.
You're right that is Hansen's Flavell Duffy Spl. being pushed out to the 1947 starting grid.

The track looks to be paved so could this be either the Norwood Arena or Thompson Speedway? Both Sostilio and Bernardi were East Coast drivers and I think those were among the very few paved tracks right after WWII. And I could be completely wrong but I think Norwood had lights early on. I'm not sure about Thompson.
