    Hello,
Palm Springs is a destination for many people. In the hey days of Hollywood, the actors had second homes there as a respite from the grind of movie production. It was the architecture of the modern styling of homes that drew most to the desert climates. As high school teenagers, it was also a well known destination as a Spring Break Vacation hot spot.
upload_2018-7-27_3-29-37.png The 40 sedan delivery required a, hanging outside of the car, bag of water attached to the bumper for impending desert overheating.

As twenty somethings, it was also a draw because of the scores of others calling it a gathering spot for freedom. It was the mid 60s and the whole young community was invading Palm Springs like no other. The "local attractions" drew the 20 somethings like the modern styling homes drew the older adults. Between 1966-69, it was not just an Easter (Spring Break) Vacation hot spot, but an attraction all year around.

Our "season" was whenever we could drive out there to the desert climate to enjoy what was there for us. The contrast between coastal So Cal and desert So Cal was pretty glaring.

One of the reasons to make the 2+ hour drive was a rock concert at the new-ish drive-in theater. By 1969, the theater was packed on the weekends like other So Cal locations. But this time, the drive out there in the 65 El Camino was to go to a first, a rock concert/gathering with festival seating. The crowds were there, the traffic included long lines to get into the city, etc. (The El Camino actually played a service to the walking, jump in the back for a closer drop off area...the air shocks came in handy.)

The drive-in opened in 1964 in the Eastern area of the city. (Cathederal City)
