LOCATION: SHRINE AUDITORIUM
Hello,
For all of you car show enthusiasts, this label was the standard for showcasing the Shrine Auditorium events. But, the car show did not take place in the actual Shrine Auditorium. That huge, famous auditorium is for concerts, award shows,(Academy Awards, Emmy, etc) and other sit down stage performances.

But, just around the corner and adjacent to the big parking lot is the Shrine Exposition Hall. That is the actual location for these car shows. That Mickey Thompson event took place here in 1962.(great show, by the way) The inside of this huge hall is perfect for floor shows, like car shows, community floor seating concerts (stand up) and industry dinners and of all things, comic book shows.

In 1966-68, there were many famous stand up rock concerts in this Expo Hall. The main auditorium that had concerts with actual individual, reserved seating. (Jimi Hendrix, Doors, etc.) But, car shows, comic book shows, promotional events, all took place here on the huge empty Expo Hall floor space.

Today, this Expo Hall is still "home" to many pop/rock/indie music concerts as well as a great place for the industry to have their promotional events. It is located right next door to the old USC campus, the nearby LA Coliseum, and the outstanding Natural History Museums.

Those red engines are not Chev/GMC's wrong bellhousing and starter location. There were red GMC's for a time.

 

Can't say for sure but it's likely. Of course about 1/2 of the sprint car drivers of the 50s/60s wheeled that car at one time or another so it could be anyone of many.

No, sorry, I don't.

 

I don't know who the guy on the left is. But I don't think it's Winfield as he was much taller. On the right is Jigger Johnson who was the riding mechanic (and Boyle employee) for Wilbur Shaw when he won the 1937 500.
