This picture of the SAAB reminds me of a funny remark my first wife (Brand "X") made the first time she saw
one of these. She asked me "what kind of car is that?" I told her it was a SAAB. She said "well it looks like
    someone should "sob" about that!"

  2. Weird things noticed: The brown sedan out front is actually up on blocks. The little orange Studie over on the right side - first one I recollect seeing in that color.

Check out the guy in the pits at 3mins 53-55 secs having a cigarette while his car is worked on. Lots of Hudsons in this race.

Foxbats over in India are that big, no lie, and you don't walk under the tree they are all in either.
If you recall the scene from Bridge on the River Kwai where all the foxbats take off out of the tree after the explosion, they block out the sun like a cloud, and the racket they make is something else.

That's true; it's just that the styling advanced so fast they skipped right over this design and used the next one - the Turnpike Cruiser - as the inspiration for the '57-'59 Mercurys.

Henry B. Joy was the real brains, vision and "force of nature" behind Packard.

A quote attributed to him was "let's do /something/, even if it's wrong!"

  23. Here's a thing I did not know. My understanding was that the Pontiac brand was first introduced by Oakland Motor Car as a lower priced model in 1926. And the following year or so, GM acquired Oakland, dropping that marque, but keeping the Pontiac line.

But there it is: an ad for a "Pontiac" in 1908:

  24. NOT the same company as the later GM Pontiac.
