  1. At last, a Portland pic! Were all photos of Portland from the 60's and 70's confiscated and destroyed? Just wondering as I can find pics of every other location on Earth. Same goes for Woodburn Drag strip!
Anyone here remember House of Hardtops, The Old Andy & Bax? Cruising Broadway?
Zidell's gigantic surplus warehouses? The hippe forecourt fountain ( now Ira Geller ) in the 70's? Lair Hill? At least a billion pics must have been taken, I can't find any!

  6. I want to start something! When I visited Incline Village at Tahoe where they filmed the outdoor scenes for Bonanza I got a good look at that car. I recall seeing it written somewhere there on a plaque or brochure that the car was specially built for Hoss using odds and ends and pieces of truck parts to get that appearance of great size. Hence not a real car at all. just a functional stage prop. That's my story etc.

So, NOTGETTINGRICH, that would be a publicity stunt, right? Sort of like John Wayne buying a new car and having the roof customized up six inches for his "tall" stature. All about image. Don't believe it? Even Robert Mitchum tattled on ol' Duke, saying that John used four-inch lifts in his cowboy boots! They'd co-starred in a '67 western, "El Dorado," also co-starring a young James Caan.

    Robert Mitchum
“John Wayne had four-inch lifts in his shoes. He had the overheads on his boat accommodated to fit him. He had a special roof put in his station wagon. The son of a b* * *h, they probably buried him in his goddamn lifts.”

"Sure I was glad to see John Wayne win the Oscar ... I'm always glad to see the fat lady win the Cadillac on TV, too."

    Rock Hudson
“I did a movie with Duke Wayne and was very surprised to find out he had small feet, wore lifts, and a corset. Hollywood is seldom what it seems.”

It looks like it has one ton truck wheels from the 20s or 30s and if you look closely it has a 4 speed with granny trans, look through the running board and you can see the plate where a PTO could go. It would be neat to drive around in it.

  22. As long as we're looking at some of the finer ladys from Hollywood, here's one of my faves..... Gloria Grahame. Damn, it's too small.

The point was larger-than-life Hollywood gimmicks.

BTW, Dan Blocker was a cool guy. Not everybody in show biz is as well liked as he was. (And I should probably add that I still enjoy John Wayne's movies. But I'd be the last to claim he was a great actor. Hollywood has had way more stars with drawing power than it's had actual actors and actresses.)

Vintage shots of actresses here, scroll fast past the tasteful bare skin shots if it'll offend you.

    Probably not so much.
Think of other "Forward Control" vehicles, like cabovers and the Corvair Rampside.
Though not as extreme as this, very similar.
I have a Corvair Greenbrier Van and it took a little getting used to at first.
My wife don't like it so much as the front of the vehicle is "right there" so youo are definitely the first one at the scene of the accident.
