"The business population of Douglas County increased 2.1 per cent during 1959, according to statistics released by. J. Harry White, district manager of the Portland office of Dunn & Bradstreet, lnc. Basing his facts on a physical count of the January 1960, edition of the Dunn & Bradstreet Reference Book, White reports that in 1959 Ihere were 1159 businesses listed in Douglas County. The reference book lists 509 businesses for Roseburg, 98 for Myrtle Creek, 87 for Reedsport and 84 for Sutherlin. The book lists all manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers who seek or grant commercial credit. It does not include some of the service and professional businesses such as beauty and barber shops, se curity dealers and real estate brokers. Therefore, the figure for businesses in Douglas County would actually be higher than the number quoted..."

Looks like they were going gangbusters until the big "boom".
