Vintage shots from days gone by!

The GMC's. Single barrel carb without a governor under it. Big ignition coil not mounted to the head. Large generator covered by a shield. Doesn't look like military type waterproofing of the ignition coil. Odd water pump with the suction pipe on the other side. Different oil fill without a breather. Exhaust outlet out the front. Oil filter feed tee'd from the rocker shaft oil line on the head.
Why send the engine water to the rear and have a fan on the front?

Interesting package. And it looks like an offset drive going out the back, like using the transfer case as a gear reduction.

 

I can only hope that grille ended up on a chopped Merc!
