Annd he seems to be leaning on the shiny fender and the car is too shiny already to be painting it without sanding and the masking job looks like its for a spot repair not a repaint and there is no black paint on the masking areas..... Unless it's a clear coat.... So many questions...
Sobriety test - FAIL!
The picture was part of a promotional picture set that was issued in 1959 to entice customers to Beny Motors, the GM dealership. They set up a staged picture for each department (bodywork, mechanic, drive through service bay, and used car lot.) This 55 was set up as part of the refinish process they offered. I love the discussion, though!
Thanks Schreibs, I just knew it had to be staged and now we know the rest of the story....

Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery is a Celtic themed sports bar and restaurant chain in the United States and Canada that employs scantily-clad female servers in short kilts (known as a "breastaurant"). The bar's tagline is, "A cold beer never looked so good.

sure looks like a staged picture, there's no overspray on the masking paper. looks like the paint was already dry and they taped up with paper after the fact, and boy, would he have smudged the paint with his torso. what do you think ?
Nothing like a hot cuppa' joe at a roadside stop!
Or a picnic lunch!
In the days before the extensive interstate networks and fast food restaurants, I remember our family pulling off at roadside stops like this when we were travelling and pulling out a single burner Bernz-o-matic propane stove which my mother would use to whip up a hot lunch for us and a cup of coffee for my father. Restroom facilities were behind the second tree...

Pretty freakin sad...Just think of the implications if a kid brings a sandwich for lunch with no crust........
I would think that the "painter" would have been wearing some semblence of a filter mask.
